Pregnant after a Loss

What are you washing baby's clothes in!

Now that the holidays are here and baby got lots of clothes, and with showers approaching too, I am wondering what kind of detergent you will use? I know Dreft is most common but have heard some say Tide Free since Dreft isn't approved for front loaders? What will you use? I would love to wash what I have now so I can put it all away before my showers start. Oh. And what about fabric softener?

Re: What are you washing baby's clothes in!

  • I will use any of the "free and clear" detergents... we usually use All.  DH has psoriasis and that is what I can use with him, and I cleared with with my pediatrician....  It is also much cheaper than dreft or tide...

  • Dreft actually has fragrance added to it that can irritate baby's skin. It's best to just stick with a "free and clear" detergent. I actually put vinegar in DS's clothes for the 1st rinse cycle to help disolve any remaining detergent and then did a second rinse, because he had horrible skin. I didn't use fabric softeners because of the risk of irritation, but there are some "free and clear" ones that would probably be safe to use. Another tip, wash your clothes in the same detergent because when you hold baby, it will press up/ rub against your clothes and that is how their faces get irritated. I also tried to have people who held him cover themselves with one of our blankets or burp clothes to limit his exposure to detergent/ perfumes on their clothes. HTH!

  • Dreft does have one approved for Front loaders.  BRU carries it. DH checked it out....defintely says HE on the front
  • I've always used the store brands of Dreft- it's pricey anyway and there's no reason to spend the extra money. DD has always been fine w/ these detergents- no reactions or anything. I think unless your LO has a skin condition/is super sensitive skin you don't need to take extra precautions. The free&clear is good enough (as other recommended).

  • I have been using Dreft but only because I got a bunch of it as gifts. I think after we run out I will buy the store brands that are similar to Dreft or Tide Free and Clear--same stuff only much cheaper!
