Pregnant after a Loss

Are we insane for taking our baby on vacation this summer?

She's due April 20 and we're looking at a beach trip the week of June 20.  It'll be us, BIL & SIL, MIL & FIL, and my parents.  So we'll have LOTS of help to say the least.  I just think taking the whole fam to the beach to spend quality time with their new neice/grandaughter would be really special for everyone.  Will I regret this? lol

Oh and I will add our beach vacations are nothing but lazy - lots of naps, lounging on the beach, watching movies, playing Wii, etc.  The island we go to is nothing but beach houses...no hotels, only a couple of restaurants.  It's just very laid back and chill.

  • Nah... Sounds fun! We'll be doing the same in August, actually!

  • I would go!!

  • I'm not a mom yet, but I don't think that's nuts. She'll be about 2 months old, you'll have tons of family help and it's not cold and flu season. As long as you don't care about having "plans," you should be OK. How far of a ride is it?
  • I think it sounds wonderful!  Can Auntie Knelli and Baby Knelli tag along?
  • We are taking our LO to Disneyland in August...I think it is fine!!!! Sounds like fun!
  • I think it would be nice for you. I loved spending time with my IL's after DS was born because they loved changing diapers and holding him, so other than feedings I was able to relax myself. I say enjoy! You might plan on the carride to take a little longer if you have to stop for feedings- we once had to stop 3 times for a 1 1/2 hr drive.

  • I dont think thats nuts, just make sure to take everything you will need. We took DD on a weekend trip to Bavaria when she was 2 weeks old.
  • Me jealous! That sounds awesome.

  • It's a 6 hour drive from our house to the beach, but I would guess we'd drive to my parents' house (2 hours away) the day before and then make the 4 hour drive the next day.  We'll be in no rush to get there!

C'mon Knelli! :o)  The more the merrier!

  • It sounds like a great experience for everyone. My biggest fear would be where to put the baby when we were at the beach and all of the sand. You will really need to take extra precautions to keep LO out of the sun. I am sure that you will think of everything between now and then.

  • That sounds awesome!  I definitely think you guys will have a great time!  We will be going to Nantucket in June when our baby is 5 months old, and I can't wait.  I think first vacations are great!

  • We took DD to the beach for 4 days when she was 5 weeks old.  It was so nice and relaxing as we had family there too.  I say go for it!
  • Well our baby is due on April 25th and we'll be jumping on a plane on June 4th to head to TX for a week and a half. We are flying down but will be driving back. Sometimes I think we're nuts but we will make it work.

     I say go for it!

Oh yeah I've been thinking about that for sure.  I know babies can't wear sunscreen, so I plan on getting one of those little baby beach tents to put her in.  I'll put her bouncy seat in there to get her off the ground since it'll be hot.  She won't hang out on the beach all day though - not everyone in the fam is beach bums like I am.  It will probably be me, my mom and SIL on the beach and everyone else inside taking turns holding the baby, lol.

Oh and this gives me an excuse to buy some cute teeny tiny swimsuits and hats, hehe!

  • That is the best time to travel with a baby b/c they just sleep.  We are planning on flying to Japan to visit BIL and SIL when LO is around 3 months old.
  • It's definitely not nuts...we're doing the same thing.  Although our LO will only be 3-5 weeks old when we go.  I'm just a little nervous about everything we have to bring and not quite knowing what we'll need.  But we'll have plenty of help and our beach house has a private pool, which will be perfect while the baby is sleeping.

You'll have a blast and everyone will enjoy spending time with the newest family member.

  • No, you'll love it!  We will do this too, and did with DD at 4mo.  As long as there's not a ton of traveling from here to there kind of thing, but relaxing at the beach sounds heavenly!
  • No I don't think so.  We are taking little man away this summer also, he will be 4 months old.  My parents have a beach house so it will be:  Mom, Dad, brother, brother gf, sister, bil, niece, nephew, me, dh and little man.

A full house for sure but it's always a good time :o)

  • Nope. We're doing the same thing. Julia's due in March, and we're going to the beach in May over Memorial Day. My sisters, parents, BIL, nieces and nephew will be there. I think it'll be fun since our beach trips are lazy trips too. Have fun!

  • It sounds about like what we are planning to do with our then two-month old.  We are renting a cabin by a river with the fam.  I figure they'll be a ton of people who will want to watch the baby, so DH and I can go hiking and canoeing if we want, or just lay around the cabin!

So, I guess you're only as insane as me!Big Smile

Julia is such a beautiful  name!!  My grandmother's name was Julia and I came very close to naming this baby after her.  Just wanted to say I love the name!

Aw, thanks. We're in love with her name. I'm so glad we're having a girl because to this day we still can't agree on a boy name. LOL.
