DH and I had our first appointment today at the Center for Women's Health at Evergreen with one of the midwives, and got to actually see the little bean and his/her beating heart! It was awesome, especially because the midwife (Sharon) said we probably wouldn't be able to see the heartbeat and not necessarily even the baby, but there they both were, clear as day. Bad news is I have to have the 12 week glucose test since my mom's diabetic (as was her mom.) Yuck! But it'll all be worth it to have this little one here and healthy.
Re: AW- We have a heartbeat!
Yay, that is awesome! I was thinking about you today and wondering how your appointment went.
Now I am even more excited about mine - I hope we have the same luck! Was Sharon pretty open to giving it a try? I have this image in my head of me asking, her saying no, and me bursting into tears. Yes, I'm ridiculous.
Sharon was great! She warned me that we might not see anything, and I said that I was prepared for that and ok with it- but the possibility of maybe seeing that there was indeed a peanut in there was too much for me not to want to try. The machine was available (perhaps if it had been in use elsewhere I would not have gotten to wait for it) and it took a little bit of moving around, but the small fry finally showed. My friend who's 2 weeks ahead of me also got to try for a sneak peek but she has a tipped uterus so she didn't get to see anything, but because of that (and I think MrsAmyB mentioned getting a quick look too) I made sure to ask. Nice to know he or she is in the right spot, with a thumping heart and is apparently going solo in there!
I can't wait to hear how your appointment goes- I hope you have as good of an experience as I did!

Congratulations on the heartbeat! It is always reassuring to see the flicker from the heartbeat.
Congrats! The heartbeat was absolutely amazing to hear.
I come from a family of diabetics, and my doctor was able to check my A1C from my blood and skip the 12 week glucose test like she originally thought. It's worth asking for that option; I am very high risk for diabetes [both parents, two brothers, grandfather, multiple aunts...] as well.
My doc pushed the glucose test initially but decided to do the A1C instead, which just requires an extra vial of blood. They're already taking a ton, so it was no hassle. A1C's are a good indicator of your glucose levels over a long period and no fasting is required.
So exciting isn't it?
The glucose test isn't that bad. I was petrified when I had mine as I had heard that it was a disgusting taste, but reality is that it wasn't that bad, just very sweet!
Thanks for all the congrats ladies! It's so hard not being able to share this with everyone- as I'm sure many of you would agree with- so it's just really special to be able to share it here. Thank you for your support and kind words.
Thank you for this tip Julie! (Had to go check my "everyone's real name" thread since I've not memorized them yet.
I will call up the midwives and ask if this is an option for me- that would be awesome if I could just do the extra vial of blood instead!
Congratulations!!! I bet it was amazing to see the heartbeat!!

Congrats! I remember how exciting that was and even a feeling of relief to know that everything is ok in there when you don't even really feel pregnant yet.

Yay! Isn't seeing the baby the most amazing thing ever? DH and I both cried the entire time during our ultrasound. Seeing the flicker of that tiny little heart, and watching the baby move around (ours was at 11 weeks) was the best thing we've ever experienced!
Congratulations to you!
