JOEBunny

Do you use a clothes dryer? Just wondering because they're the #1 cause of home fires, far more than candles. According to one website "the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that 15,500 fires associated with clothes dryers occur annually. These fires account for an average of 10 deaths and 310 injuries and more than $84.4 million in property damage annually." Just sayin' since I know you like statistics...

(The "just sayin'" part is my lame attempt at a joke, LOL.)

  • I have a huge fear of fire. I don't allow the dryer to be going when we're sleeping or gone from the house.

    I do use candles.

  • Yeah, I am scared of running the dryer when we leave the house too. Same as the dish washer, I have heard from more than one person about their house catching on fire from their dish washer-yikes! And I wish there was a "like" option, because I like this post. Good stats :-)
  • around here most fires are from candles and alternative heat sources.  Not denying those stats though.

  • Just because I'm bored:

The number I found for candle fires is actually 17,200 as reported by the U.S. Fire Administration. According to them, the leading cause of house fires is actually cooking, which makes sense.

Yeah, that does make total sense...especially if my MIL is cooking. ;-)

  • Yes, and electricity too, which caused a fire in my old house.  Oh, and I cook, which is by far the more dangerous thing.  Those things add value to my life, candles merely lower indoor air quality and cause fires.  Don't really think the benefit is there.  Fab if you do. The stat I found was that 4% of house fires are caused by candles.  Another site said that 6,700 fires were started by them in a 4 year period.  I could probably find some other stats, but I don't feel like it.
