Babies on the Brain

I don't know how to help her

My niece that is. She went off to college, and hated it.  I think the school was too hard for her, and she felt really out of place (it was a small school away from home - but close to the rest of the family).  She also missed her boyfriend.

She dropped out of school, and went back home.  She complete butted heads with her parents and siblings - and basically left home for a few days and wouldn't tell anyone where she was.  At the boyfriends (parents) house - of course.

Now she wants to get an apartment on her own (no roommates).  I KNOW she cannot afford it.  She works part time.

Long story short, I offered for her to live here and go to school locally.  I think it would be good for her.

She won't do it - the reason?  Her boyfriend back home.  Grrr... I remember young love myself - but I wish she would look at the big picture.

  • I really think you've done all you can to help her.  And it was very nice of you to offer for her to stay with you.

We did something similar for my BIL and he refused as well.  We wanted him to come stay with us and get away from the "friends" he has that he continually gets in trouble with.  DH even offered him a job.  You can only do so much--they have to make the decisions on their own.

This could have been me.  Honestly, it was something I had to grow out of and realize that a guy wasn't worth adjusting my education for.  It took a while and I finally got it thru my head.  I was engaged to the man and everything.  I chalk it up to life-lessons.
