Custom Hospital Gown...

anyone else getting one?  I'm having a hard time finding just the right one.  I don't want to wear the ones at my hospital (a huge baby factory IMHO... and I would feel dirty all day... not that I wont anyway)

I'd love to see what others have found....

I didn't even know there was such a thing. But no, I'm not going to get a custom hospital gown. I have a feeling it's just going to get dirty (blood, fluids, etc).

My hospital gives us the option of our own or thiers... and well... I'm weird about things other people have worn, etc., like I have never worn someone elses clothes and I cant use laudromats... when I was in college my mom came and got my laundry and did it.  (she is kind of sort of the source of my issue... one might say:)

I know I'll just toss it... but DH has offered one for me to wear for first photos as well (he totally "gets" my phobias

yeah, I'm not going to spend money on something that's going to get nasty anyway!  I'll bring a bathrobe and comfy clothes for afterwards, but I'll stick with hospital issued gowns for the really messy part.

I highly suggest you buy 2 then - one for labor and one for post partum.  Those things get DIRTY in labor and you'll likely just want to throw it away! 

While I can understand your fear of public clothing (I feel that way too), the sheets, the chuck pads....they are all washed and reused.  Just so you can prepare yourself.  Consider bringing your own pillow.

I'm definitely not spending the money on a special gown, but in your case I do get why you'd want one. I feel like other women I've seen on the boards just want one to be "cute" during labor. Wish it was like that, but it's not. It's a messy process

But if yours is due to the whole phobia thing I totally get it. Sorry, I don't have any resources, but I bet if you checked w/ the ladies on 3rd tri you'd get some suggestions- I've seen them mentioned a few times before. GL!

i made my own sort off, i hve the patern to sew one if you can do it( i didn't)so what i did was go to khols & got gown that was on sale and bought it for $12 then i bought the snaps like hospital gowns have, then i cut the shoulder seams & replaced with snaps to make it easy for BF'ing. i'm still debating if i should cut down the back and do snaps/ties or if i'm just gonna save it for after delivery & just labor in t-shirt or tank top

Nope, I'm going to wear a hospital gown.  In most hospitals extremely solid items are incinerated.  As in, if you bleed, urinate or defecate on a gown, bedding, etc more than likely it will not be washed and reused.

Personally, I'd rather soil a free gown vs. something I'm never going to wear again.  I plan on giving birth in the hosp. gown and then change into some yoga pants and a big comfy shirt once everyone gets cleaned up.

Hmm, I've never heard of this, but you'll feel dirty with or with out the hospital gown, all the leaking and blood and whatnot.  I'd rather use the hospital ones.   When I was finally able to get up and take a shower the next day it was like heaven and I wanted to put on clothes anyways.

I posted this before and everyone seemed to think they were too expensive, but having been stuck in a hospital for 5 days in their gowns, so worth it.  This is a mom entrepreneur friend of mine and I can vouch for their quality - organic cotton, soft, easy to nurse in.

Oh, and the likelihood that you will be wearing any hospital gown when you deliver is pretty slim, but for early labor and after I would definitely invest in gown.  Heck, I'm homebirthing and I'm getting one.

I would not waste my money (imo)... just keep asking for clean ones, the nurses would be happy to switch them out.

I had considered ordering one, found a few that are cute around $75, but then I realized it was dumb to spend money on something you will wear only once, maybe twice, that is just going to get stained and yucky anyway, that no one will see you in except your DH and the hospital staff.  Didn't make sense.  Much more important things I can do with that money.

I found some on etsy.com (google maternity hospital gowns) which are really pretty and not tooooooo terribly expensive.  I plan to get one.  It may be silly, but my last stay in the hospital was for ten days and the loss of my first little one, and I want this one to be so different...right down to the gown.  Plus I felt gross the whole time, and I think i will feel better in a pretty maternity gown.  But then again, I am also taking scented linen spray, water free shampoo and yummy smelling lotions.  I will not end up stinky, in a hospital smelling room with greasy hair and an ugly hospital gown no matter how long I am stuck in a bed this time!
