Hip pain question

At what point does hip pain cease to be normal hip pain and become cause for concern?  My hips and lower back hurt so bad, all the time.  I sat on the floor today cleaning out from under my sink and it took me 5 minutes to get up because I had to slowly maneuver myself onto my hands and knees and then sort of pull myself up using the counter.  When I roll over at night, it feels like my pelvis is being ripped apart.  I can barely walk (I have to keep my thighs as close together as possible) or get in and out of bed.

I've brought this up to my OB a couple of times and he always says it's round ligament pain.  My problem is that every time I've mentioned any kind of pain down there it is always RLP, but I've described completely different sensations every time.  This seems so much more severe than what I've read about RLP-- I'm literally in agony every time I try to change positions.  It gets so bad at night that I am often in tears after a trip to the bathroom.

Do you ladies have this degree of hip pain?  What do you do to make it more bearable? Does your OB say it's just RLP?

BTW I am 35w 3d if it makes a diff.

Re: Hip pain question

  • It could be that your hips are spreading.  My hips hurt pretty much constantly but mostly towards the back.  I had back labor with DS so I think mine might be contractions.  Is yours more in the front?

  • I feel you pain but I never brought it up to my Dr.  It comes and goes but at night is the worest for me.  It always takes me a little while to get up and down these days.
  • I know everyone is different but I agree hip pain sucks!  I am fine when sitting, standing, sleeping but I limp when I walk and get sharp shooting pains in my right hip/lower back area when I bend, try to sit/stand, squat etc.  Getting up is the worst.  My dr suggested it was sciatic pain and that I use a heating pad and Tylenol, but it's hurt every day for 2 weeks straight now and I dont' want to take Tylenol every day!  I have taken half a dose one day so far and I think I will again tomorrow because I probably overdid it today shopping and baking and I am just getting to 29 weeks!

  • My hip pains are like yours but not AS bad, I think. I am in agony for the most part all the time, especially at night. OB said take tylenol when its uncomfortable. But uncomfortable doesnt begin to describe. I would suggest explaining the seriousness of your pain to your OB. If you're in tears, thats a cause for concern. For me, it wasnt this bad with my first daughter but now its kicking my tush.
  • no pain at all with DS, however this time I feel like a Ken doll when his legs pop off....(why did the male doll's legs always pop off but Barbie's didnt?) I cant get comfy at night and rolling over has to be done in steps.... yes much severe pain... Im just tired of hearing "that's normal in pregnancy" about EVERYTHING... if you dont check how do you know there's nothing wrong? (especially the questions about discharge)
