3rd Trimester

Terbutaline - anyone had to / currently taking this?

Went to L&D this morning after having contractions most of the night. They got to about 4-6 minutes apart and finally I said enough and went in. They monitored me and saw plenty of contractions and came back with a shot of Terbutaline. That calmed things down for about 15-20 minutes but they came back - less frequent, but stronger. They gave me another shot, monitored for 1/2 hour and sent me home with an rx for the pill form.

I went ahead and took it as prescribed - just wondering if anyone else has been through this. I'm not a huge fan of taking any medicine during pregnancy, but realize I need to keep these contractions at bay if I can. WDYT?

  • I've been on it (among other anti-contrax meds) for a month. I think you should be okay. My guess is that you won't be on it for very long and your doc will take you off of it when you're full term.

Feel free to ask any other questions about PTL. I'm a guru on it now.

  • Thanks! I've just been trying to read up and so many articles talk about it not being "approved" as a means of treating PTL, yet I know I've read other posts on here about it. It definitely made me jittery especially after the shots, and LOs heart rate when up pretty high - into the 180s, for a brief time.

I'm hoping to get into my Dr. on Monday to see where he wants to go from here. So did you just keep taking it as prescribed to prevent contractions from returning? I don't want to take anything I don't have to, but I also don't want those contractions coming back - at least not for a couple more weeks!
