3rd Trimester

what did you ask pediatrician?

so with ds we knew the dr we chose.  He passed away and we aren't happy with the office now.  Im meeting with a dr soon that a friend of a friend recommended.  Just curious what you asked?  I have obvious questions that I have from experience with my son.  Im still just curious to know what you asked and if Im forgetting anything.

Re: what did you ask pediatrician?

  • I might be in the minority, but I didn't ask anything.  I went off a recommendation from a good friend and my OB.  They both said that the pedi we are going with is awesome.

  • I'm the same way... I went with high recommendations from both my sis-in-laws and another friend. I did talk to her about delaying some vaccinations and she's been accomodating that way. I was happy to find out her office is also open on Saturday mornings.

  • vaccine delays and how often they prescribe antibiotics.
  • The pedi I interviewed preempted most of my questions about hours, other physicians in the practice, etc. I asked him about vax scheduling.
  • I had some specific questions (ex. circumcision in case it was a boy - I ended up having a girl), but mainly just let him lead the discussion so that I could get a feel for his personality.  I then asked him how he did with crazy first time moms and his answer made me laugh, so I knew we had a good fit there.  My daughter is now 2 and we are still extremely happy with him.

  • We met with a ped last week. I liked him instantly and it turned out to be more of a conversation then an interview type situation. We talked about what they look for the first couple of newborn exams, vaccinations, what to do if I have questions/problems after hours (antibiotics is a good one that I didn't think of). He asked me basic questions about my pg and our family histories which I thought was great initiative. I also asked if the ped had any particular areas of interest. Not immediately important, but I thought this was a good way to get a feel for him as a person and identify if he had any sort of strong feelings/causes that I didn't agree with that could cause problems in the future. HTH and gives you some good ideas!
