3rd Trimester

not making kick counts

i've laid on my side for a hour after drinking some kool-aid and he's just not moving today. i've tried to poke him, and move him but nothing is working.

i guess i should call l&d?

Re: not making kick counts

  • Is there anything that normally gets him moving?  If so, try that...otherwise, after an hour of trying to get him to move with no success, yes, I would call L&D.  You can never be too cautious.  Good luck!

Oh and where are you giving birth in SD?

  • Loading the player...
  • maybe its just me but I have never heard of kick counts.  (only from this site) My dr has never mentioned that to me in either pregnancy.  I have a day or two where I don't feel much movement and then I get my stomach beat for a whole day.

This. Is this a time when you normally feel him move? If it is, then definitely call. If he is generally quiet at this time, then I'd say try when you normally feel him moving.

normally he moves on his own when i eat, (which i've done plenty of today) and drink anything cold. he's normally very active.
and i have to deliver at Balboa Naval Hospital since my Dh is in the Marines. I tried to stay with my civilian doctor, but they had openings at the base, and told me i had to go.

  • I'd go in for an NST... It'll take 30 minutes (or more) and they'll just check. Go go go!

in my handbook they gave me at the obgyn, it stays to do kick counts after 28 weeks.

My doctor even mentioned to me about doing them at 28 weeks. Twice a day, ten movements in an hour. Girls have posted on here about catching their baby in distress because of being diligent about checking.

  • Yes, definitely call. I think sleep cycles are around 20-40 minutes, so even if he's napping, you should feel something within an hour or so.

I'm sure you're fine and he's being lazy, but better to be safe than sorry!

  • okay ladies. i'm going in to get checked out.
  • YES.  CALL L&D.  I went in for decreased movement, thinking I was just paranoid.  DS was in distress and had to be born.

Good luck.  T&P headed your way.

  • Good Luck! T&P are with you...Let us know how things are going.
