I am trying to convince my DH to get a camcorder that records directly onto a DVD for Christmas.
They have some good deals on the Sony Handycam DVD camcorder. I just think it would be so nice to have our moments with baby recorded directly onto a DVD, rather than having to hook it up to a tv or computer, etc. to see it. We have one that is fairly old, but still works- so it would be a luxury buy- not necessity. I thought about buying a new digital camera too, but I think ours will still work pretty well...
Do any of you have one that records onto a DVD? If so, do you like it, and what kind is it?
Re: Are you buying a new camcorder/camera?
This was our gift to each other this year for Christmas. We wanted to be able to record easily and send things to the Grandparents without a huge hassle.
We got this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-DCR-DVD650-DVD-Handycam%C2%AE-Camcorder/dp/B001P3O3O0 Some friends of ours have the exact same one and they LOVE it!
We purchased our "grown up" camera after last Christmas. My DH had his heart set on a DSLR so I caved in and we got it. My parents surprised us with some money on Thanksgiving so we put it towards a video camera. I'm sure we'll use it lots once the LO arrives.
It's amazing what you can buy and the prices you can get things at right now.
we got one over the summer, a sony hd digital camcorder. smaller, handier, it's got pretty good resolution, and i like being able to directly upload onto the computer. it's easier i think to just burn videos on to dvds after the fact when you want a hard copy (or email them, or put them on youtube, or plug it into the tv or the computer, whatever) than the kind that you need to have dvds with you when you want to record.
recording time is limited to the dvd size with the ones that record right onto disk, whereas if you get a decent memory card you can record for hours at once.
We got a great video camera for our wedding in February that records to either DVD or Memory Sticks - it's a tiny Sony HandyCam. Love it!
Then, for my shower, some of my family went in on a custom Flip HD camera for us.
DH also got me a brand-new Canoon DSLR camera with 2 new lenses (upgrade from my older equipment) for a shower/birthday/Christmas gift.
I think we've geared up enough to make this kid one of the most videoed/photographed around...lol!

We got a camcorder for our together Christmas gift - we didn't have one before. It's not one that records directly onto DVD. I didn't feel that would be very practical, since a DVD has very limited recording space and we'd have to carry extras with us when going on vacation or whatever. We got one with a large internal harddrive. It can hook up directly to the TV if we want to watch our videos right away, and we'll never have to carry DVDs or memory cards with us. We can record for 21 hours on medium quality.
DH and I both have simple point and shoot digital cameras, which take good pictures, so we won't be getting a new camera. I would love a digital SLR, but that will have to wait till we have an overabundance of cash to spend.
