I'm on BR and I'll likely be delivering in the next two weeks. There is no time for that. I'll be getting my epi as soon as I get there (they've already told me I could). Other than that, DH has been through two births, so I figure he'll keep me updated.
I didn't take one and I lied when the nurse practioner asked me if I did. My DH was like "why did you tell her that we took one?" She said "You took the labor class here, right?" I felt backed into a corner and I answered yes.... OOPS.
I didn't and I labored for 9 hours until I got the epidural. I didn't read any books either...I mean, what's so hard to understand about waiting around until they said "ok...push" You'll be ok!
I think they are good if you plan to go natural but i dont think there is a point if your getting a epidural. I think they are mostly to learn pain management. But who knows things dont turn out the way we thought sometimes. maybe it is good to take a class incase something happens and you cant get a epidural.
i took one the first time and the only thing i got out of it was stickers for free parking. it was a two part class and i never even went to the second one. i was planning for a natural birth and the class was pretty much all about the epi.
so no class for me this time, though i hate the thought of paying for parking.
I was going to take Bradley but it is almost 400 dollars where I live and it was hard to spend that kind of money right before I go off work and christmas. So we didn't end up doing it.
Technically no, although we did hire a doula and she's providing two prenatal sessions. I just couldn't justify spending the money on her, and then spending another couple hundred on more classes.
I did not take one with ds, I did take one with LO. There is some useful info if you totally don't know what you are in for, but i wouldn't say it's a necessity. There will be plenty of doctors and nurses shouting directions at you if you veer of in the wrong direction! LOL. I took one this time around mostly for DH's benefit. He's clueless.
No I am not taking one with my first child and I really don't think it's necessary besides when I started getting the contractions everything went out the window but the pain but what I will say is breathing does help and a good support team and the doctors are there to tell you how to push.
Im not - with thw twins, i don't even know if I will get to have a vaginal birth depending on their position so i figured it was a waste of time. If they are both vertex, I figure I will just pay attention to the nurses and do what they tell me when. Plus with the twins, they make you deliver in the operating room just in case you need a C section for #2 and who knows how that will go, so I think the whole thing for me would be a waste
We're going natural - but the $$ for a class was CRAZY. So we're doing a homestudy course of hypnobabies. Half the cost of the classes, we can do them on our own time in our own house and we get every bit of the same amount information. I have learned SO much.
Plus- we have a doula who we've had several meetings with and she'll be there to help with the birth too.
Additionally, I've read three books on natural childbirth.
Im not. I'm a nicu nurse and am around L/D all the time, so I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what goes on. My birth philosophy is do what I have to do, whether meds or c-section, to get a healthy mommy and baby. Plus the classes are soooo expensive and really time consuming!
Re: Is there anyone who is not taking a labor/delivery class?
::raises hand::

but mostly because I knew I was having a c-section and I wasnt sure I would get much out of it
