3rd Trimester

pregnant with #2?

I just posted this on 2 under 2 as well, but figured I'd see if this applied to anyone on here.

Just curious if anyone else is getting their butts kicked with baby #2 (or more) like I am?  My first pregnancy was pretty easy, but this baby is wiping me out.  I'm trying to figure out if it's one factor, or a combination of a few.  My very active son is 17 months old, I'm in my 3rd trimester, and I'm a teacher at the end of a busy semester.  But this time around, I can't seem to get enough sleep, I'm sick all of the time (cold type sick) and just flat out emotional and exhausted.

Anyone else feeling like me?

Re: pregnant with #2?

  • Yes, much harder second time around.

  • This pregnancy I'm more uncomfortable.  I'm chalking it up to 3 things...

    1. I'm 5 years older.
    2. I live in a house with lots of stairs (was in a ranch the first time).
    3. I'm chasing an almost 5 year old around.

But they do say that every pregnancy is different.  Hard to say if it would have been different anyways or if it's related to my list.

  • My first pregnancy was tough... morning sickness for the first 18 weeks, followed by general discomfort, swelling and a c-section.  This time around has been a little bit worse actually.  The morning sickness was worse.  I'm awaiting the swelling.  I'm exhausted from working full time and chasing my 1 year old around when I get home and on the weekends.  I'm ready to be done!
  • I actually feel really good.  Im smaller and a lot less swollen than with ds.  But Im nervous that this can still happen as I get further along.  But my knees are killing me and Im so tired.
  • I'm hurting more with this pregnancy. It's been strange - in a lot of ways, my first and second tri were easier (although my m/s lasted a LOT longer this time and is making another appearance), but this third tri has involved a lot more pain. And I look more pregnant than I did with #1 at this stage. The other thing is that this DD does not move nearly as much as my first, It's been different, but not necessarily more miserable...

  • more aches, more pains and exhausted all the time.  plus trying to keep up with an almost 3 year old is tough somedays-our attitudes tend to clash (go figure)   trying to clean up or play with her is very hard most days-especially the bigger i have gotten.

Actually, I do agree with you Timeg, I do tend to forget that the beginning was much easier this time around, so I guess I should be happy for that. I actually had the ability to forget I was pregnant for a long time.  Then quickly I hit a point where there was no way to forget, and it went downhill very fast from there.

  • This one is SO MUCH MORE active inside the dd was.  She would roll, but this one jabs, and hurts me!  I have worse m/s this time too.  But I've gained less weight with this one that I did with dd.  Otherwise, I feel pretty good, I'm not too exhausted this time around.  But my dd is 3 1/2, and I would think if she were under 2, I would definitely be more tired!  :)
  • Yes.

This pregnancy is kicking my butt. I tell DH it's because I'm older and he laughs at me (I'm only 23, lol)

But I seriously think it's because I have a 3 year old to keep up with.

  • I am also having a lot more pain this time around.  My lower abdomen hurts when I walk to the point of tears sometimes.  My hands and feet/ankles are also swelling a lot this time around when they didn't the last time.  I'm not going to bed at 8PM and sleeping as much as I did with my first pregnancy but that is probably because I have a toddler to take care of.

All in all, I would definitely say that this pregnancy has been a lot harder than my first one.  It only really started in the 3rd trimester though.  1st and 2nd trimesters were pretty comparable for me.

    We're almost done ladies!

  • Yes!

This pregnancy has been much harder than with my first.  Thankfully, nothing has gone wrong and there have been no complications (knock on wood).  But, at the same time, all my "symptoms" have been worse.  My  morning sickness was stronger and lasted longer, I got really bad headaches that I did not get the first time around,  all the aches and pains seem worse, etc.  I am more emotional too.  And, I've been having Braxton Hicks since the 2nd tri and they are getting worse the closer I get.  I did not get them with Jaxson until the last month or so.

I think there are several factors - just like those you mentioned.  The first time round, I could kick up my feet when I got home from work.  Now, I don't get to rest until after Jaxson has had dinner, a bath, some playtime and in bed.  There is just a lot more going on when you already have one.  My mom brought up a good point as well.  She said the novelty of it all is not as strong the second time around.  With Jaxson, I took every uncomfortable side effect as a reminder of the amazing thing that was going on and now, I do the same to a degree, but not nearly as much as before.

I am just ready for this next one to be here!!!

  • this pregnancy is definitely more work and more exhausting than my first one. The first time, I didnt have to do so much house cleaning. If I was tired, I'd just rest after work. Now, I'm chasing a 19 month old, constantly picking things up off the floor, not getting enough sleep, more joint pain and just overall exhausted. I was waiting for my energy to come back but I dont think that will happen anytime soon! Hang in there. Its just a combo of everything.
  • Hands down this one has been tougher. My DD was a breeze and I didn't even realize I was pg until the end of the 1st tri. This time, I was sick from day one, up until about 19 weeks, so many more aches and pains, so much more exhaustion. Not complaining because we're so, so excited for this little one, but it's amazing how different it can be! A couple things have helped- chiropractor and yoga. Used yoga last time as well, but not as frequently, and didn't have the chiropractor. I can only hope that the labor will be as easy as it was w/ DD- she was out in 3 pushes!

  • I could have posted this, except that I'm chasing a 2 year old around

I too am a teacher, it is the end of the semester, I'm grading finals and finishing up the term. I'm totally exhausted all the time, and occasionally in the evenings have to take cat naps, but it never seems like enough. I'm much more emotional and on top of it half the time I'm sick to my stomach which let me tell you, nothing is more fun than being 38+ weeks and puking at 4 in the morning.

I just hope the second child isn't like the second pregnancy. My first one was so easy and I have such a happy little lark most of the time.

  • Much harder!!!  My DD is 17 mths as well.  I think it's the lack of time / energy to work out as well as not being able to kick up my feet at the end of the day.  Plus I'm under a lot more emotional stress then with #1.
