BIG u/s question-don't laugh

So when you go for your big u/s and you decide you don't want to find out do you not look at the screen? or do you just tell the person doing it to not tell you and hope you're not good enough to pick out that body part? This may be a dumb question but i've been seriously wondering what you do to not know. Do you miss out on the sonogram? I wouldn't be able to stand going and not watching my baby. Just curious.

You can tell them upfront that you dont want to know the gender and they will just tell you to look away when they're around that region to make measurements.

DH was unable to w/ me to the big US so I had the tech wtire it down. When she got to that part of the exam she told me to close my eyes. She printed the pic. and told me when I could open my eyes.

The first thing the Tech asked us was if we wanted to know.  We told her no and she said when she needed to go in the "area" to measure the bladder and what not, she would tell us to look away or close our eyes.  Which is exactly what we did.   We had them closed for about 15 seconds, if that.

I only knew because they pointed it out to me.  Just tell the technician to let you know when they are going over the genital area so that you can look away. They will understand!

We were surprised with DD.  We told the tech we didn't want to know and at the appropriate time she said to not look.  But we got to watch the rest of the US and enjoyed it very much.  Kuddos for you for keeping it a secret!

Not a silly question. You just tell the technician you don't wish to know. You'll still be able to watch the whole sonogram. They just won't go looking between the legs. Besides, half the time I have no idea what I'm looking at on the screen. I think it'd be hard to tell anything with an untrained eye. We had to go twice for ours since they couldn't get all the measurements they needed, and we made it clear both times we didn't want to know. And we never saw anything we didn't want to. At the second one the technician turned the screen away for a few minutes to do some stuff, then turned it back.

oh.. i'm not waiting. I'm too impatient. I'm just curious how those who have the will power to not know don't know when they get their big u/s. Thanks for the insight ladies

when i went in for mine they asked if we wanted to know or not, first thing (we did).  i honestly couldn't tell until she pointed it out to us, though, so i'm sure you won't have to look away the whole time or anything like that.

The first question we were asked is if we wanted to know and we told her we didn't. She showed us the brain, heart, etc and explained it all. At the end she made a comment about making sure there were no pictures showing the "money shot". She double checked them after we were done. We were talking and she stated she knew what it was because she had to check the pelvic region for some reason or another. I am so clueless on how she did that without us seeing! She never once made us look away. I guess maybe she distracted us with something else or who knows! She has done it for 15 years so she has probably learned the tricks by now
