2nd Trimester

Baby vs. my hb on doppler

Yesterday while I was listening to the babys hb on the doppler it suddenly dropped to half the rate then a second or two later came back to it's normal rate.

I checked for mine and the rate seemed to be the same as the rate when it dropped. Could that sudden drop have been my heart rate and the baby moved? Is this something that I shoud worry about?

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience.

Thanks

Re: Baby vs. my hb on doppler

  • this is why i don't need an at home doppler. Adds too much stress.

  • YES! That happens to me all the time. I checked with the doctor and it is your hb.
  • That happened all the time to me when I used my doppler early on. It's freaky I know. OB said it was baby moving and the "swoosh" of liquid making it difficult to pick up the hb. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Very likely! The baby moves around quite a bit so I'll have it's heartbeat pinned and then boom, nothing. I've also figured out where my h/b is always at and if the baby is near there I can hear the two overlap. It's pretty cool!
  • Everyones reassurancce makes me feel so much better. Thank you!

  • Yup happens to me all the time.

  • I'm so glad you posted this!!! Yesterday I thought I had felt LO, so I'm excited and decide to do use the HB doppler I bought...well, i kept hearing something and it just seemed too low, then out of nowhere I heard two, one a lot faster than the other!

My DH & I looked at each other and started laughing.  I know one is mine but DH looked so shocked, it was priceless

  • Not that I am the best one to give advice (I listened to my own heartbeat FOREVER, thinking it was the baby, real bright).  But my heartbeat is on the "sides" of my groin, whereas the baby is more centered.  Baby moves around so much, so I never get to listen more than 10 seconds before he/she moves!
