Sushi question for tonight: Help please:

DH and I are going out to dinner tonight to celebrate our 2nd anniversary that is on Monday.  We are going to an awesome steakhouse that also has sushi. Gosh I LOVE and MISS sushi so much! Here is the roll that I want:

Ice Roll - Cream Cheese, Crab, Avocado, Asparagus, Wasabi Topped with Sliced Filet Mignon & Eel Sauce - 12.95

**Would the crab in this be okay to eat or no???  How about the eel sauce?  What do you think?

  • In my opinion I think you are completely fine.  You could even have a tuna or salmon roll and your baby will be as healthy as can be.  It's not like you are eating raw fish every day.  That roll sound delicious!

Enjoy your night out!  SO jealous you get to have sushi tonight, yum!  :)

  • I eat sushi almost every week and I am fine so far.

  • Is it real crab or just those crab sticks? The crab sticks are fine. Actually, I think even if it were real crab, it would be cooked, but you can just ask.

  • I would ask if everything is cooked, to err on the side of caution. But it sounds like you should be in the clear. Have a good time!

  • The crab will definitely be cooked. The eel sauce should be safe as well- enjoy!

  • If you trust the place you are going to, I see no problem eating what you've suggested or anything else sushi-related, raw or not.  Have fun!

  • yep and yep.  I'm also of the mindset that a little raw sushi from somewhere reputable isn't a big deal...
  • After reading about how seafood is collected (like shrimp) I WOULD NOT EAT IT RAW. Yuuuck.

That said, I eat cooked crab legs all the time from a reputable source. And I think most fish/shrimp/crab is safe as long as its well cooked.

  • As far as I know, crab is always served cooked (steamed) in sushi.  The eel sauce should be fine.  I'm pretty sure it doesn't have actual eel in it, it's just a sauce to go with eel.  I could be wrong but it sure doesn't taste like eel to me (I can't stand eel).  Just make sure the filet is cooked enough and you should be fine.

  • Personally, I think any sushi, cooked or uncooked, in moderation is fine if it's from a restaurant you've been to before and never had any problems with their sushi.
  • I'm sorry but come on? You are worried about eel SAUCE and crab? I ate raw sushi for our anniversary! That's the only time I have done it so far but I have eaten plenty on non raw sushi and my baby is A ok.

  • I wouldn't do it if its raw.  My Doc said absolutely no sushi, but I've had it once, with the cooked type of eel.

  • It would be fine as crab is cooked in sushi

  • I just asked a question about sushi yesterday at my OB appt. They said it was just fine. Happy anniversary!

  • I've had (my weight in) crab a few times during this pregnancy. You are good to go!
  • You should be fine. I've had raw stuff here and there too. Usually I will share raw tuna with DH and then get a cooked roll for myself. You'll be just fine. Enjoy it!
