Pregnant after a Loss

fat pregnant belly and kicking...

Why do people say that overweight women feel a baby kicking later than more trim women?

I mean, I guess I could understand not feeling or seeing movement on the outside...but does it really make a difference on the inside?

I am overweight and I started feeling movement around 15 weeks, and really felt bouncing at 19 weeks with my last pregnancy.

Anyone else find that to be odd statement?

  • Well me and a friend of mine were discussing it today. We are both the same weeks pregnant and are sad, upset, jealous, and kinda pissed we haven?t felt movement yet. We both thought we felt flutters, but think it?s just gas now. We just assume maybe that?s why. But most of my extra weight has always been in my butt and thighs, not so much my stomach. So i don?t really know.

but I do know i?m gonna flip out if i don?t feel something soon.

  • Katie, be patient! I didn't feel movement until 20 weeks. And I'm not a fluffy girl. I'm not a skinny minnie, but I'm about "average." I agree that it doesn't make sense to me that you would feel movement later on the inside if you're overweight. I think it just varies from person-to-person, and the placement of your placenta, obviously.

  • I carry most of my weight in my butt and thighs too.  Not so much in my stomach at all.  And I didn't feel movement until 21/22 weeks.  Hang in there, it will happen soon enough.

I also read in WTEWYE last night that baby is probably doing most of its moving around while you're sleeping. The strange fluttery movements I've been feeling have been at 2, 3, or 4 in the morning after I've gotten up to pee and then laid back down again. I gotta think it's movement cause it feels so wierd and it's the same feeling every time.
