I saw several recent posts regarding weight, but how many of you lost weight during your 1st trimester? I lost 6 lbs over the past four weeks due to m/s, and my doctor really chewed me out. She now says I have to take zofran 3x a day, and phenergen before bed. And I have weekly visits until I prove I can steadily gain weight.
Did anyone else go through this?
Re: Weight Changes
Last time around I lost some weight in the first tri from all the puking (but my doc is a "tough it out" kind of doc and doesn't do the Zofran thing). When I could finally eat again, I gained 6 pounds between appts. and he really flipped his lid that I was going to be bigger than a house and I would never lose it all.
Every doc is different, and it just sounds like yours is really cautious about that kind of thing. As long as you aren't dehydrated though, you'll be fine. Hopefully it will end for you soon!
No I am not. Before I was pregnant I was on the high side of my weight range.
I forgot to add that she said I would have to go into the hospital ( i dont know why) If I didn't gain 4lbs by next Wednesday. The whole thing has stressed me and my husband out.
How was your starting weight?
I also lost 6lbs during the first tri. With DD I lost 9lbs. I would say I'm pretty average (5'5" and 135) and the Dr. didn't care at all. I do take Zofran this time around, but I didn't last time.
I have started gaining now, but I'm not back to my pre-pg weight yet. With DD I didn't hit my pre-pg weight until my 20w appointment and I seem to be on the same track this time.
I lost 15 pounds in the first trimester from severe m/s and I was small to begin with. I did not gain any weight until this last appt where I gained 10 lbs. My doctors did not require me to take medication and didn't worry about weight gain until this last appointment. (They were upset I didn't gain more.)
Hopefully you will start feeling better soon! Starting in about my 12th week, I started feeling slightly better each week. I have not thrown up in about a month now and am hungry all the time! So, if you are like me, you will put the weight on, I promise!
I didn't lose weight during my 1st Tri, but I'm losing weight now in my 2nd Tri. And I don't have m/s.
In 1st Tri, I gained 6 pounds (was weighed in early October). When I was weighed again in late November, I hadn't gained any more. I weighed myself last night and I'm actually down 2 pounds since then.
I have another doc. appt. on Dec. 29 and we'll see what the scale says & I plan on asking my doc about it (I switched docs between Oct/Nov so new doc didn't know I hadn't gained).
Also, I started off this pregnancy overweight, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I know heavy women are supposed to gain less, but I am pretty sure we're still not supposed to lose weight. Did you start off underweight or overweight or healthy weight?
I lost 13 lbs between weeks 6 and 13. And then have only slowly put it back on. Right now I'm up 4 lbs from my lowest point and stuff 1/2 lb below my prepregnancy weight. As long as you are eating and getting some nutrients you should be ok. Weight loss in 1st tri is VERY normal and my doc didn't bat an eyelash. She sas it's perfectly normal and I'm grateful for a doc that is very low-key about weight. Honestly, if you weren't on the low end of the weight range to begin with I don't understand why a doc thinks you should go to the hospital... but I'm no MD.
How much are you throwing up?
Honestly, I think the fact that she wants to put you in the hospital is a bit much. And I wouldn't want to take Zofran and Phenergan all the time. I still take Zofran when needed, but I was never instructed to take it 3x a day.
I would think as long as you are eating healthy and taking vitamins losing 6 lbs isn't such a big deal. If my Dr. give me instructions to gain 4 lbs in a week I can say without a doubt I would not follow them.
