Video of epi being administered

Not sure if this is clicky or not (don't know how to make sure it is), but I saw this video of an epidural being administered (if anyone is interested). Not sure if this makes me more or less nervous about it.

Re: Video of epi being administered

  • Ugh, that totally made me more nervous...  I guess it's good I saw that, but I could have done without it:(  As I usually say, "ignorance is bliss":)

  • Actually that made it a lot better for me- crazy I suppose but I've had a lot of medical procedures and that looks a lot easier than some of them.

  • I'm not watching it. I've already had one epi. I got myself way worked up over it and it honestly wasn't that bad. I had 3 contractions through out the process (I had to be induced w/ DD) and it still wasn't that bad. I was in a lot of pain and once it was in place I didn't feel anything. I didn't even feel DD being born, and I'm ok w/ that. :-) Once the epi wore off, I def. felt like I gave birth. I hope it works as well this time around.

I actually didn't hear the sound (if there was any). No sound on work computer. Did the woman say anything?? Was she OK during?

  • I'm not watching either.  I had one with DD, and was also induced.  It was worth the minor discomfort of insertion after it was in.
  • I watched it, and I'm not sure if I should have...lol. In a way it made me less nervous and in another way I wish I hadn't seen what was going to be going in my back!!! There was sound, the woman does say "ouch" while he is insereting the needle, but he explains it hurts a little when they put it in and there is no way around it...you didn't miss much without sound!

  • I watched during child birth class & was scared after that. It really wasnt bad at all. I didnt feel a thing - well except sweet relief! lol.

I don't think I've EVER had a needle when I DIDN'T say 'ouch'. If 'ouch' is the worst it gets, I'll be OK :)

  • I was ok during my epi. They told me to hold still, they put a pillow between the nurse & I and they told me what they were doing as they did it. I held on tight to the nurse and honestly, the numbing shot is what hurt. After that I didn't feel anything. It was comparable to having novicane when you have a filling. The shot hurts, but you go numb pretty quick, you can still "feel" the dentist poking around at your tooth, and you know there's a drill in your mouth, but you don't feel the pain. For me the epi was the same. The shot hurt, I could feel pressure & her moving the tube around and getting it in the center of where it needed to be, but it didn't hurt one bit. Removal also didn't hurt. Removing the tape around it was like a huge bandaid & that was annoying. Honestly, getting the IV for the pitocin drip was worse then getting the epi. And I was sooooooo worked up about the epi, I seriously considered going natural just because of my fear of the "pain" in my back. But once the pitocin hit me, it hit hard and I could hardly catch my breath to breathe through contractions, they were one on top of each other.

  • I want to have a med free birth if possible. I am glad you posted this though because now I know if it comes down to it that I can do the epi! I always imagined it being soooo much worse.
