especially interested in input from mom's w/another child or more. but, i know new mom's have had input from other resources, too, so i value your reasoning, as well.
I am a new mom but have a bunch of friends with kids and they all use the Hotslings sling or Maya sling. They all say their Drs said the Baby Bjorns and similar carriers make the babies legs go to sleep to a sling is the best.
The woman that makes them does a great job & I just found out she's the sister of a girl I went to school with. I'm debating on getting my own fabric to send her or to get her to make me one with her own fabric.
i have too many, but I have to say they are all good for different things/outings. I have a moby wrap that I used in the house when he was a nb. He was fussy and gassy and it helped him sleep. Its hard to get the hang on putting on though. And its hard to put on outside since the fabric is so long it would touch the dirty ground when tying. I love my bjorn for facing out--and in--but ds loved it at 3 plus months and loved to look out. We used it til about 7 months--then he got too long and heavy.
I have an ergo carrier that you cant face out. But its good for sleeping babies on the go, you can also put it on your back so Dads love it. You can use it til they are huge--I put my 5 yo niece in it on my back.
I have a sling--I bought it after ds was older--I use it on my hip to carry him. I borrowed a sling when ds was a nb, and he hated having his legs tucked in--again he was really gassy and uncomfortable. But I plan on trying it for the new baby for nursing on the go with a toddler in tow!
I definitely recommend the bjorn and a sling for sure.
I think thats it everyone and every baby is different, whatever you buy, keep the receipt and try it out--so dont buy it too early as some stores return policies are 90 days only.

I registered for both a Bjorn and a Maya wrap. I've heard all sorts of stuff about both and I figured that I'll need to try both to see what works for us.

I have a Bjorn active (I think it's called....the one with more on the back support) and an Ergo. I really like them both for different activities. But I just got the Ergo when DS was 15 months so I have not used the infant part yet. I like the Ergo because it seems better for DC's legs and back and they can fit into it longer.
But I am going to get a sling for this new baby. I want to try it for around the house. I am thinking it will make more hands free to care for DS#1...I hope it works anyway!

not registering, but were getting the baby hawk this time around.
I had a sling last time & a moby wrap & while i liked them, they really didnt "grow" with ds. it become uncomfortable to carry him. i borrowed a friends baby hawk and fell in love. so im definitely going with that. it works from newborn to something like 30 lbs with no insert. they also have a buckle option now which is what im getting, i hate all the ties,
I'm registering for the Moby, I've had friends who've used it that loved it. I'll probably use it around the house most of the time, especially for the first few months when I imagine LO will want to be close to me a lot of the time.
While I haven't actually used any carrier yet, I'm registered for a My Baby Nest carrier (amazon). I love how it looks b/c it's wrap-like, but not a wrap and you can use it as baby grows unlike a sling. I'm also interested in a Beco or Ergo based on recommendations, but I just wished they faced out like the Bjorn (which I don't want).

I LOVE both my Moby and Babyhawk Mei Tei. The Moby is wonderful for a newborn but I still use and DD is 20 lb. I didn't get the BH Mei Tei until DD was 9 months, but I love it and used it everyday.
I love my slings by Slinglings and Hotslings, but my absolute favorite carrier now that DS is a bit bigger is my Ergo. DH loves it too, and we'll be able to put an infant insert in it for DS3.

I think I'm going to ask for a gift certificate for this website: https://www.sweetpearingslings.com/
