I bought my 1st pair of maternity pants... a front/full panel one by Motherhood, and they stay up great, only my legs/butt are saggy. The belly part works, just the legs get loose as I wear.
I wear a 9/10 pre pregnancy, should I have gotten a small instead of medium?
Re: Maternity pants, buy a size smaller?
I'm also not so sure of that buy your Pre-PG size...I was a size 16 at old navy, but when I tried on their maternity pants, the 16s were too large and I needed a 14. I also notice that the stretchy material of the mat-pants seems to loosen and get somewhat baggy as the day goes on... A lot of mine have a saggy butt - and I have a big ol butt! haha!
Anyway, yes, I have been buying a size smaller than my Pre-PG size and still have plenty of room in them...might just depend on how stuff is made or where it comes from. HTH.
Sigh. I don't know. I'm so frustrated with buying maternity pants. I need longs b/c I'm tall, and that drastically limits my selection. I'm not sure about the whole buy your prepg size either - that seemed to work for my Gap pants, but my Old Navy ones are super tight in the thighs and giant in the waist/panel. I didn't think I had abnormally large thighs to begin with, so I don't know what's up with that. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of rhyme or reason to sizing in maternity pants - I guess you just have to try stuff on. I do agree with pp that said keep the ones that are a little big - I ordered a pair of Gap jeans a size too big, but I'm guessing they'll fit in a few weeks.
This. I didn't have to buy my first maternity wear until 20 weeks but thank god I bought my size. I'll actually be able to wear those for at least a month or two more. Anything I'm buying now, I'm getting a size larger so that they make it to the very end. If you buy smaller now, you're just going to need to buy bigger in several weeks. IMO, I can deal with saggy butt and legs if it means the pants will last the whole time.
I heard you are supposed to buy larger since you'll grow into them. Mostly I'm buying larger, esp. with shirts. I did buy a pair of size 6 long GAP maternity jeans the other day because they fit perfect right now, but they were only $10 at a consignment store and had they been more expensive, I would have gone up to an 8.
Honestly, I noticed a huge difference in fit between the medium and large jeans at Motherhood so I would be sure to try on the smalls before you make any decisions.
I guess I'm in the minority here. I usually wear a size 8 pre-pregnancy, but I had lost some weight and all of my size 8 pants were too big for me for about 6 months before getting pregnant. I've bought size 8 or medium in maternity pants and I find them all to be tighter in the butt and legs than my pre-pregnancy pants. I tried on a 10 and a large to see if I could wear them, but they were horribly big so I had to stick with the smaller size.

My advice is always try on the smaller and larger size if you can.
I was between a 6 and 8 and small and medium pre-preg and everything maternity that's 8 or med is way too big on me. I can't even wear my old maternity stuff (all of which are med/8).
The best luck I am having with pants is with regular yoga pants or with making my prepreg pants work. I use two things together that work well with my prepreg jeans: 1)bella band, 2) a "waist band expander" I found for $15 on amazon. Alone neither does the trick, but together they are the answer for me.
Maybe it's just me but sometimes it's nice to put on a looser pair of pants, I don't feel so... beached-whale. The one disappointment was buying a couple of lace-trimmed tanks in L instead of M, anticipating a lot of growth. The larges are too big and ugly looking, even now, and the medium I did buy fits me so much better, especially as an undershirt.
So I guess I just gave you conflicting advice.
Don't know where you buy your pants...but the Motherhood sizes say that pre-pg size 8-10 is a medium, so I would say you have the right size. I am a 6 pre-preg and needed the small, but I wouldn't say that they are at all baggy on me (meaning that if I was a size up I think the mediums - at least at Motherhood - would have fit the best). Plus, I agree with others in the fact that you are going to get bigger yet, so maybe just hang on to the mediums and they should fit later (instead of you buying a bunch of different sizes).
