Adoption

New and haven't a clue... lot's of advice needed

We just had a failed IVF and due to finances and age (40), we are thinking of just moving straight to adoption but I have NO clue where to start or what to do. I would love advice and recommendations and to hear some of your experiences.  American vs International, how much did it end up costing you, what country if International, where to start, who and how did you find the "company" you used (sorry don't know all the adoption acronyms yet).  And be prepared, because I am a question asker!  WeI have race or country preference, we are open but would however like a newborn :)

Thanks,

Julie

Re: New and haven't a clue... lot's of advice needed

  • Welcome to the board! This is a great board with great ladies who are full of information! I recommend the book Adoption for Dummies to start with! It has tons of information about adoption! I will say that if you are wanting a newborn, you will more than likely need to do domestic adoption, as most international adoptions are not newborns. I'm doing domestic infant so there could be some international programs that I haven't researched that do place newborns but I believe most are a little older ( 6 months +). There are lots of other ladies that are doing international adoption on here though and I'm sure they can shed more light! Good Luck to you and ask away! I've always gotten a lot of great answers when I've asked questions.
