I start acupuncture on Thursday! I have been meaning to do it for a while so I just called the place yesterday and set up an appointment.
Who has done it before?
What do you wear? I know that is a stupid question but I wasn't sure if you are in your underwear... do they give you a gown or something? I will be doing a lot of googling about it until my appointment!
Re: So excited!
Love, luck, and prayers to my BFPB Dr. SnowflakeBride
Yeah, it's for fertility but they can help a whole bunch of other stuff too.
I've never done it but I have a girlfriend who swears by it. She used it for fertility and for pain. She has a grapefruit sized fibroid tumor that caused her horrible pain during her 3rd trimester. Drugs didn't help at all but regular trips to the acupuncturist did the trick and she was pain free through the rest of her pregnancy.
My instincts tell me to wear yoga clothes and granny panties. But if she logs on to IM today, I'll ask her. Good luck with it!
Thanks!
That's really reassuring about your friend. I totally believe in eastern medicine. Nothing can hurt at this point!
Plus maybe he can shrink my gigantic ovaries.
Thanks! I just wanted to make sure
That's awesome. You're going to love it. I really enjoyed my acupuncture sessions, I wish I could still go, but I honestly can't afford it right now. The insurance pays 60% of it but they take forever to reimburse me the money, so I stopped going. I didn't see any improvements with my fertility but it made me so freaking relaxed that you'd think I was high on vicodin lol
I wore comfy lose clothes, like yoga pants and a tank top.
Riley did it fairly recently and I think she enjoyed it.
I haven't seen her on here this week - but I could just be missing her.

Mey- I have really cold hands and feet too, all the time. I am so excited to go!
I will wear the yoga pants etc and then I guess go home and change into my work clothes, or I could just bring them and change at work. I just won't wear makeup that day.
Her FIL has been in the hosptial since last Thursday. He was rushed in and I haven't heard anything about if they figured out what the problem is or not.
I do it! Good luck, I hope you find it rewarding.
I am generally dressed for the "face up" portion, she just moves my clothes. When I'm on my belly, I take my shirt off and she unhooks my bra. Also, no shoes and socks.
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

Our baby girl was born on April 27, 2011!
Really? It's that euphoric? I have a feeling I should try it, if anything, to just relax . . .
That's right. I missed her OP about her FIL being in the hospital. I was extremely busy at work last week and didn't get much bump time in.
I sure hope he's ok and that they have figured out what's going on!

YAY!!! You're going to love it. I've been going since the summer and love it!
How much clothing you've got going on is going to depend on the specific treatment they are doing. You can really wear whatever you want, they will cover you with a towel or sheet like they do for a massage if they need to. You should be wearing your bra and underwear.
I usually wear shorts (in the summer) or yoga pants. I always take off my shirt, and just roll up my pants a bit. She puts needles on my feet and ankles. You might not have anything on your legs, depending on your situation.
Good luck! I hope you love it!

That is great! I started this month and I've really liked it. At a minimum, it helps me relax and also helps me feel like I'm doing something to help.
I just wear my work clothes. My acupunturists puts the needles on my stomach, hands, feet, bottom half of my legs, ears and head so I don't need to undress, just unbutton my pants or skirt and roll up my pant legs.
Hi Riley!
I can't wait! I should have asked him what to wear, I didn't think of it until afterward. It sounds like everyone has a woman but I have a man. Oh well. We went to the same school too, he just graduated 8 years before me. I'm sure the first time will be weird but then I'll know what to expect.
Any word on your FIL?
That's what I am going for too... I will be interested to see if what they do is similar. Although, I guess it also depends on the diagnosis.
I'll let you ladies know how it goes!
I am so interested to see if what he does is similar to the experiences I have heard. I figure anything at this point can help!
I actually just sent you an email.
It's very similar to a massage in the way they do things. My first visit I had a consultation, so just a long conversation about everything. Then they did a treatment the same day. They do my back first so the massage table face ring has a chance to wear off before I go home! They put all the needles in, then leave you for a few minutes, maybe 15 mins. Then you flip over and they do the front, you hang out again and then you go home.
The worst part for me is that it tickles when she's trying to find the right spots on my back. I'm super ticklish (sp?) so that might not bug you. The needles are inside a little plastic tube. You'll feel the tube on your skin and then they tap the tube to get the needle in. Then they sometimes twist the needle to adjust it. I can't feel the twisting. And inserting the needle feels like you put a drinking straw on your skin and tapped the end. You feel the tube but not the needle itself.
GL!!!

Yo Riley- I just got your PM yesterday. I sent you one back.
I just started about a month ago and love it. I am not going specifically for fertility (although I am hoping it helps) since I have not yet done any testing. I decided to try it for anxiety and to help me relax and have to say it has been helping. and ditto on the circulation, it seems to be helping too.
What I noticed on my first cycle since I started acupunture is that I had less spotting then usual (I have been spotting 4 days pre AF and about 3 days post AF). We'll see if it continues to improve.
I wear comfortable clothes and don't need to take them off, just roll up the sleeves and pants.
