Success after IF

anyone have ovarian cancer in family?

do you wonder about your IF treatments?

my mom had ovarian cancer and I went through 4 rounds of high dose stims IVF. both of my sisters had prophylactic hysterectomies once they were done having children. I will have the surgery too but I am just not sure I am ready to get rid of my uterus and ovaries just yet. DE may be in our future. my RE had suggested stopping after 4 IVFs simply because of my mom's history. I guess because now I am a mom I worry a bit (a lot!) more about everything.

  • I don't, but I can imagine the fear.  You mentioned DE - do you know that your eggs are past their prime, or are you just assuming?
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

  • My paternal grandmother had it in her 80's. However my mom had breast cancer, and my dad had kidney cancer. They also both are diabetic. I'm doomed.

  • Yes I do worry about do I plan on having prophylactic surgery most likely not, now that might change as I near the age my grandmother was diagnosed (early 40's) but for now I just worry about it!

my eggs were past their prime years ago. this explains the multiple IVFs.

I see.  But since you were ultimately successful I wondered if it would be possible again...

  • Hey P!

Well, you know all about me.   My mom had it and I am freakin scared $hitless about it.  I also went through 3.5 years of IF treatments--4 IUI's and 5 freaking IVF's. My mom did have the BRCA-1 gene and I do not.  Nevertheless, I will be having an oophrectemy by 40 (I am 33).    Hate thinking about this scary $hit.  :-(
