I have a cookie exchange tomorrow night and chose a seemingly easy recipe for chocolate sugar cookies with peppermint patties baked into the center. Well, in the first batch, the peppermint filling oozed out of half the cookies and then they broke apart when I took them off the cookie sheet so I decided to try the second batch making just the cookie and pressing the peppermint patty on top when they came out of the oven. So now they look like boobs with no nipple. DH thought they looked like dog poop. This is my second consecutive cookie exchange failure - last year my dogs ate all the cookies I'd made and I had to bring slice and bake. I should be banned from cookie exchanges!
Re: My holiday cookies look like boobs!
Here you go! Hope you have better luck with them that I'm having (they do taste pretty good).
Cookie Recipe: Peppermint Pattie Cookie
Yield: 15-20 cookies
Ingredients
2/3 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
? tsp vanilla extract
1 ? cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa (Hershey's)
? tsp fresh baking soda
? tsp salt
1 tbsp 2% milk
15-20 mini-peppermint patties
1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and blend well.
2. In a separate bowl sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Add to the butter mix alternating with the milk, blending well. Refrigerate dough about 1 hour or until firm (dough will be a little soft).
3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease cookie a sheet.
4. When the dough is done chilling, shape small portions of the dough around unwrapped mini-peppermint patties, completely covering the candy. Place on prepped cookie sheet, flatten slightly and crimp with the tines of a fork. Bake 10-12 min. Cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute, and then move to a wire rack to cool completely.
thanks, DH will love these!
I hope the rest of your cookies turn out ok!
PIP please!
Who cares what they look like, probably taste delicious!

I have also had two failed cookie exchanges-- last year my cookies crumbled to bits, and this year I made brownies with a dark chocolate peppermint ganache and the ganache lifted right off.
Your cookies sound delicious... just tell the other people that it is about taste and not looks!
I just made the easiest and yummiest cookies. They are not quite homemade, but definitely can seem that way... I just bought a couple of the sugar cookie tubes from the store and mixed in pistachios and dried cherries and then cooked. Then you are supposed to melt some white choc and dip half into the choc. I haven't gotten to the dipping phase yet, but these seem yummy... I saw this on the Food Network today and thought to make them.
Anyways, your cookies sound yummy, even if they look like boobs.
