If you've had your appendix removed, or know someone who has, come in.

A friend of mine has to have surgery next Wed. to get hers removed.  I didn't know how serious or how sore you are afterwards, I just wanted to do something nice like watch her LO or bring dinner... how long after were you sore or taking it easy?  I know nothing about this procedure.

  • My mom had hers this year. She was sore for several weeks. Not sure if this is the norm, though.

  • DH spent 3 days in the hospital and then about another week not being able to do hardly anything at all.

  • I had a 6 week recovery time. Her stomach is going to be very sore for a few weeks.  My incision was about 4 inches long. I think the best thing you can do it watch her LO for a bit!  You sound like a great friend!
  • From what I have heard that recovery and pain wise it is similar to a c/s.
  • I had a really rough recovery, for some reason. It was several weeks before I could really get around much, and my doc didn't clear me to go back to work for 8 weeks. I don't think that's the norm though.

ETA: My c/s were 100x easier than my appendectomy. There was really no comparison between the two.

  • i was pg when i had mine removed so it's hard to say. i don't know how much of it was the appendix, and how much was me being sick from being pg. however i think it's great you want to do something. i think bringing food, or babysitting would be great.

  • I take care of such patients in the hospital.  Pain and recovery time depends some on if you have it done laparoscopically or through an actual incision.  Either way, the worst pain is in the first week or so.  Full recovery is usual reached in 6-8 weeks.

Lifting is restricted so help with her child would probably very appreciated.  I think a meal would be a great help too.

  • I was sore for a few weeks. Went back to work after 2 and wished I hadn't, or had started back at half a day.

I wasn't pg at that point (got pg amonth later, in fact) but I can only imagine that with a little one I'd have been eternally grateful for a few hours of peace, or for a cooked meal
