I am having a little trouble with deciding on what to do about the baby's furniture.

We found a crib, changing table, and tall dresser at a mom and pop baby store and total for that set would be 2k. The furniture is made of real wood, won't scratch easy, it converts into a toddler bed then later a full bed. It's beautiful.

I do not know whether or not to get the convertible bed because when it actually converts to a full bed, the room size doesn't grow. It will be a very tight squeeze in the room. Also, if I have another baby after #1 then I will most probably use the same furniture for that baby as I did on #1, therefore defeating the "convertible" crib point.

Do you think I should just get a regular non convertible crib or the convertible? What's your thoughts?

Also, I bought the book baby bargains book and it's AWESOME. This book is the reason why I am totally re-thinking my 2k bedroom set for baby #1.

I think you should get the convertible no matter what...

I have found some really cheap furniture SETS! go to 

www.simplybabyfurniture.com and click on SETS...and look at them find that it's cheaper for all 3 than purchased separetely... and they are end furniture sets...like the ones i'm looking at are DaVinchi brand...

If you can afford it great but 2k seems like a lot of money to spend on three items.  Our crib is a convertible that we love.  We aren't using a changing table, instead we are getting a lower dresser and using that as a changing table.  My mom keeps asking if we want a changing table but I can't figure out what I would do with it after we don't need a changing table anymore.

We chose a convertible crib because we liked that we could use it as a toddler crib and eventually it would be put into a different room and used as a full sized bed.

We did and plan to use the same for baby, but it is alwasy nice to have an extra bed.  You may not live in that house forever.  Kids go to college and need apt furn.  you know all that good stuff.  Plus the toddler bed part is a HUGE plus! I think it is worth it just for that! I however wish we would have passed on the changing table, and just gotten a dresser that was the same hight and thrown the changing pad on it.  For the amount that u use it, it was kind of a waist and if teh dresser would have been more functional and cut down of the furniture in the room, but that is just me

DH and I are just starting to talk about baby furniture and the nursery.  We really have no idea...

I'm leaning against the convertible because when I was little I always wanted a car bed (they didn't really have the princess beds when I was young) and if we can afford to get our baby something fun like that, I think the LO would be so excited!  The convertible would be nice if it became a queen size bed, which we could put into a guest room later on...but, full-size for grown-ups is a little small (of course, that's what my grandparents used...and my parents until my little brother was born and it didn't fit three children and two adults)

Wow - just after I typed all that about no convertible - I looked at the site from PP and I really liked a crib...and the name...is the boy name we decided we want to use if baby is a little man!! Too weird!!! (Name is Jayden btw!) Wow!

We have the convertible crib and a low dresser with a changing pad on top of it. The tall dressers can actually be kind of dangerous at the toddler stage if you have an adventurous one too. My nephew decided to pull all of the drawers out starting at the top and b/c of the uneven weight distributions the dresser toppled over onto him. JMO. But our babies will be only 2 years apart and there is no way my daughter will be ready for a toddler bed by her birthday when this baby is due. So. they will both need cribs anyway. We are just dowing two convertible cribs, that way they can each have the same beds later on too.

We have random dressers and such so we are only buying a crib, and we are getting a convertible. This is my logic. We currently have a guest room with a double bed but I never got around to buying a bed frame. So we will get the convertible crib, then baby #1 will move to the double bed (all my siblings and I went from crib to double, no baby beds in between, my mom thought it was a waste since a bigger bed is nice for guests and when we got older, it made sense). So when Baby #1 moves to a big bed, baby #2 takes the crib. Assuming we have two, then the convertible crib turns into a lovely headboard for the one bed when both kids are ready to move on.  If we have more than two then we just have to buy a few more beds later, but no biggie, ultimtely the headboard will have a double bed to go with.

I second the car bed for a toddler.  Conversion will be nice but not a requirement.

we've got a convertible crib  but never used it as such.  we never did the toddler bed thing and just moved both kids straight to a full size (in fact, we just got DD her big girl room Thanksgiving weekend) b/c the reason i even moved them out of the crib is that they outgrew it (arms and legs sticking out of the rails constantly!).  also my kids are movers at night and would totally fall off a toddler bed!  we have a matching crib and changing table cuz we already had a tall dresser (that we anchor to the wall) plus my glider and tada, we have a nursery!  i got a relatively cheap crib (less than $200) and the changing table was a gift (around $70 i think).  we needed to save money at the time for things like diapers.  most ppl i know never use their cribs as a toddler bed, much less into the full/queen size bed.
