Just wanted to let you know that I asked my doctor about it today when I went in for my 37 week appointment. I know that some rib pain is common in pregnancy, but I ended up heading to the ER/L&D over the weekend because it was so intense and the doctor wanted to make sure that there wasn't something serious going on. As it turned out, I wasn't having a gallbladder attack or kidney problems... it was just HORRIBLE rib pain.
My doctor said that my issue was likely caused by either a strained muscle or a fractured rib since the pain is so localized and hasn't moved since it began. I'm sitting here with an ice pack on my ribs right now and it seems to help numb the area a little when the pain is particularly bad (doesn't make it go away completely, but it's a lot more bearable).
Just wanted to throw this out there since there seem to be an abundance of posts about rib/right side pain in the last few days. Give an ice pack a try... hope this helps some of you!!
Re: For The Ladies Suffering Through Rib Pain...
Oh! Thank you SO much!
::Runs to the freezer to get an ice pack::
mine's on my left side, but i feel like i'm being ripped apart with every breath. it gotten progressively worse the last week. ugh!
sorry for typos - one handed dinner-time typos
?
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm sitting here with a heating pad for my back right now, and most of the time it helps my ribs, but not tonight. I may have to try the ice pack. While sometimes it expands, the pain is typically localized.
Glad to hear it wasn't anything else for you -- hope it feels better.
I had the same issue around 30 weeks and it turns out that my rib was dislocated! The ER had no answers for me and I didn't know what was wrong with me until I went to the chiropractor. Let me tell you, after he adjusted the rib I.WAS.IN.HEAVEN!
Not saying this is what is going on with everyone else, but just letting you know what I experienced. Since then the Chiro was my best friend!
My rib pain is in the front (just below my right breast and directly on my ribs). I would try the ice pack, but mention the pain to your doctor next time you go in for an appointment- your OB may have some other suggestions for pain relief that you can try since your pain is in a slightly different spot!
