Totally got another mom in trouble today

I was picking Will up from school this afternoon.  As we were getting into the car, I heard this woman screaming at her child as she got out of the car.  The little girl was probably around five or so.  She was yelling at her to stay in the car.  She goes inside, leaving the kid in the car.  Kid gets out of the car and starts walking around.  Will's school is located on a very busy road and there is a lot of traffic around there, especially at that particular time of the day.

I called inside from my car and the director came running out to stay with the little girl.  The mom comes out and starts screaming at her again, "I told you to stay in the car."  The director had a few words with her after that.

Would have really been so bad for the kid to go inside for a few minutes?

  • She totally deserved to get in trouble.

  • Wow.  Glad your not my IRL friend.  I would have stayed with the girl until the mom came back, not involved other people.  Clearly, the woman was having a day.  So nice of you to go out of your way to be so helpful.
  • Wonder what she does when no one is looking?

  • They had to send a letter home at my son's preschool because so many people have been dropping their kids of really quickly--and leaving little kids in the car!  I don't understand the rationale.  These are the same people who would never dream of leaving their purse in the car when they go into a store, but leave their kids alone.  Ugh, it makes me mad!

That's just condoning her behavior IMO. I think bubs did the right thing.

Right.  So I can leave my kid alone to go rescue this kid if she ran out in traffic.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I don't care how bad her day was, that doesn't give you an excuse to be a stupid parent.

  • I crown JOE the new MMML. Combative for combative sake.

And yea, I would have done the same, or would have waited and stayed close to her. Knowing nothing about the situation, I can say I never leave DD in the car. Ever. Not even to p/u dry cleaning that is literally 5 feet from the car. Yea, it is  PITA to cart a kid around some days. Do the crime (sex), do the time (child rearing).

Um, why was it Ashley's responsibility to babysit for that slore's kid? The only mistake Ashley made was NOT calling the police. You're 100% BSC, Joe. FOR SERIOUS.

  • I did the same thing today.  A lady was getting back in her car when I was dropping off DS and she had an infant in the back seat she had just left there!  I went in and told the director and she said she was going to say something to the lady.  There was a note on the door asking people to not leave children in the car during pickup/dropoff.

I just dont' understand how people can be so dumb!

  • If she were just left in the car-I would have judged but minded my own business. Child walking around unsupervised on busy street?-yeah...you totally did the right thing. And what's up Joe? You've gone off the deep end lately-kinda unlike you.

Sorry, Bubs, I am with JOE on this one.... If you were so concerned about her, why didnt you get out of your car rather than just call?

Being BSC is a bit harsh. She could have just stood outside of her car. I totally agree with her for getting the mom in trouble, but if it were me, I would have gotten out of my car and stood there until the mom came and THEN called. What if the child had run into traffic? Your right it is not Bubs responsibility to watch that womans child, but unfortunately, she was there and it became her moral obligation.. like it or not.

Different opinions on the matter apparently.

  • I would have called as well. I don't like confrontation and you never know how the other mom would have reacted.

I agree with you. I have seen a lot worse of how some parents treat their children in public. Makes you want to cry and lose sleep for a week.
