maternity pants: elastic is always too tight!

Does anyone else have a good solution for this? When I buy maternity pants that fit me, the elastic band at the very top is always too tight. I feel like I'm squishing LO, and it creates "rolls" in the middle of my stomach where there really are no rolls. Short of cutting the stupid elastic band off, I'm not sure what else to do.

  • I think you just need to try a different kind of pant. I really prefer the low rise ones, because the big waist band things just don't work for me. I also prefer the ones that are really stretchy (like stretch pants kinda) rather than the ones that have a big seam at the top of the band (why do they do that?!)

I would just keep on trying some on! :)

  • AH HA! I have never said anything bc I thought I was being a punk but I have a pair of JCPenny dress pants that the band is so thick that is creates so much pressure on my belly it makes me sick! I have retired them already bc I'm not needing ANY help in the getting sick department~

  • that's why I like the full panel ones--where the waist is literally under my boobs :-)

  • Yeah, you're probably right.

I need pants in long lengths, and they are hard to come by! Especially in stores, I just shop online now. It's hard to buy clothes when you can't try them on.

Actually, I think that's the pair I'm wearing right now. Duo is the "brand name".

I have a pair from Old Navy and one from Gap, and they're constructed similarly. blah. :(

  • LOL. I was just about to post something about squishing LO!! That's too funny. I find that the low-waisted pants are too tight for me b/c I try to pull them up and not let them sit on my hips. I like the full band. It may be "old lady" but I don't feel like I'm creating new fat rolls and squishing LO.

  • I'm short, so I always have to buy petite.  I had the same issue with a pair I ordered online through JCPenney.  They are way too tight at the top and gave me rolls. I've had good luck with Motherhood's brand.  The panel comes up pretty high, which helps prevent the bump.  There is plenty of room too!
  • You need to try full panel! They are so much better. I had to stop wearing the elastic band jeans around 17 weeks because they cut off my circulation Smile

  • there is nothing better than the full panel pants.  they are so comfy.  the old navy jeans choke me (mid panel) and the under belly elastic presses and it's uncomfortable.  full panel, all the way!!

  • i have recently fallen in love with the secret fit belly pants!! They have the microfiber full panel that you can fold over or roll or whatever you feel like and the are soo comfortable!! Unfortunately i bought a medium and should have bought a small so i feel like im always pulling them up, but they are much more comfortable than the elastic waist bands!!

  • I also recommend Motherhood's Secret Fit Belly.  They come in long lengths.
