Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Are you waiting to get matchy-matchy stockings until all LO's are born?

I'm on the fence.  I love PBK's stockings this year but I don't know if I want to get them or not b/c I don't know if they'll have ones that will match when the next LO is born.

Are you buying matching stockings for everyone this year or will you/did you wait until all LO's are/were born before getting ones that match?

  • I'm waiting.  Like you, I found ones that I really liked...but want to be able to get more when the next one is born.  I figured why waste the $ now.
  • I've been tossing it around too!  I think I'm just going to wait. I would also like them to all match (I really want to buy them though!). :)

  • Target has some nice velvety blue, green and red stocking for $ 9.99.  We already had a green and red one, but got DS a blue one.  They have a whole decorating section for stockings.  So, I bought a pin that says baby's 1st Christmas to glam it up a little.  I figure why spend money on a "kids" stocking, when someday he will outgrow it.
  • A friend of mine if a very good seamstress and I asked her to make our stockings.  We picked out the fabric and all the trimmings together.  She sewed them and then embroidered our names on them.  We bought extra fabric so that there's enough for future stockings. :-)  She did such a fantastic job and I'm so happy I asked her!

  • I don't think so.  I kind of like the mis-matchy look with the stockings.

  • I found stockings I loved just after last Christmas and bought six. We plan on having one more LO, but got a couple extra just in case. :-)

  • I bought matching stockings from Kohls, they have our first inital on them. They were on sale for less than $5 so I wont feel bad about not being able to use them if I cant find a matching one when baby #2 arrives.

  • My stocking is burgundy velvet and DH's is green velvet; both have our first initials in silver sparkles.  Wanted one for DS that kind of went with ours, so I ordered from here and got a blue velvet one with sparkles personalized in silver thread.

I really, really loved the jester stockings here, but DH wasn't a fan.  Maybe someday down the road (after #2) I can convince him, and then both kiddos would have these funky-yet-classic stockings.

  • I would be matchy matchy only with twins.  DH and I have similar stockings we bought a few years ago.  Kiddo is getting a stocking this year that my mom is going to "decorate" further.  It will be her stocking until it wears out.  Future kids will get their own stocking that will also be decorated.  But matching/similar only if twins/triplets, etc.

My grandmother made my sister and I matching stockings (handmade from a kit - made of felt, rickrack, etc).  We used them for DECADES and now they are too delicate for things to be put into them.  So she and her DH and my DH and I bought our own stockings. I made stockings for my sister's twins for their first xmas (matching, but not identical) and would have made more, but she's done with kids.  The boys' stockings don't match their parents.  And I don't think sis's and BIL's stockings match each other's either.

DH and I have the same style, but his is green and mine is red and they are further decorated and personalized with names, etc.  Kiddo's doesn't match ours. And since we don't know how many kids we'll end up with, it didn't make sense to buy more.

  • The ones I got from Pottery Barn they have had for years and years, so I am just hoping they continue to keep carrying them.

  • I doubt we'll ever have matchy-matchy stockings.  I like them to be unique and reflect our personalities.  Last year DH and I both bought each other new stockings (both surprised each other) - which was pretty cool.  His is camo with a small deer near the top (he's a hunter, obviously).  Mine is a winter white color with fancy gold/silver embroidery on it (which I LOVE).  I just bought a $1 "Baby's First Christmas" stocking for DS.  And, of course, the doggies have their own stockings too.

But as DS gets older, I'll either let him pick out his own stocking or let him make one every year.  It'll be a fun arts/crafts project for him!

  • Nope. I have mine from when I was a kid, and we got one for our cats (laugh if you must) and DH doesn't have one yet. The one I got for DS is all red and embroidered on the front in white it says, "Santa, I've been a good boy!" I just thought it was so cute, I couldn't pass it up but it may not be his forever stocking. We'll see down the road.

Although I am going to get an extra stocking holder and put it away so those will all match once we have another stocking to hang!

  • We all have different stockings and I like them that way.
