It's very important that we have a lot of books for our little guy. We are both avid readers and had tons of books as kids.
What are some of your favorites? I only have a few so far. I have the Little Bear book, Harold and the Purple Crayon and Take Me to the Zoo (Dr. Seuss).
I for sure still want some other classics like Where the Wild Things Are and the Francis books.
What would you recommend?
Re: Children's books
My kids love Jamberry (very rhythmic and fun!), anything by Richard Scarry (especially "I am a Bunny" - amazing illustrations), all Dr Seuss books, A Bargin for Francis, Spot books, Clifford books, Curious George, Frog and Toad, lots of nature books (even kids encyclopedia types).
rainbow fish!
Rainbow Fish.
The Velviteen Rabbit...I can't spell...
Not classics but ones I love. Little Pea and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.
My SIL reviews children's books so we have an open and ongoing free stash of super awesome children's books.
FWIW, I can't stand Goodnight Moon. I know it's a classic and I don't understand the attraction at all.
I love Enid Blyton too! I have the entire Noddy series to give him.

Love the book by Dr. Suess, Oh the Places You'll Go! We bought that for dd when she was born and I will do the same for ds. I got it when I graduated h.s, way back when:)
DD is not at the point where she loves books. She will sit on the floor with a ton of them around her and flip through the pages. She use to tear out the pages, but not any longer.
Each Christmas, she gets a Christmas book from one of her aunts and another nice children's book that's autographed. I have these high on her shelf so she will not mess them up.
I hate that book too and I have to read it to my class every year!
Pat the Bunny.
For baby board books we had a lot of Sandra Boynton, Brown Bear Brown Bear, The Red Barn, etc.
For regular kid books, we have the collections of Curious George, Amelia Bedelia, Berenstain Bears, the Little Golden Books and a ton of Disney story collections.
The Velveteen Rabbit, The Frog and Toad books (I think there are 3), Stellaluna, Corduroy, Guess How Much I love you, Someday is not a day of the week, all the Dr. Suess books, If you give a mouse a cookie, Lilly's Purple plastic purse, Clifford the big red dog books, A Bargain for Frances (and there are 2 others), and the Madeline books.
I would recommend LOTS of board books....they are so much easier for little ones to handle....and you don't have to worry about them tearing up the pages. My DS is 18 months and loves touch and feel books and anything with lift the flaps such as the "Where is Baby's _________?" series.
Other favorites--Eric Carle books, Sandra Boynton.
I don't think you can go wrong with books,
Something From Nothing
Strega Nona
Anything by Eric Carle
Stellaluna
Love You Forever
Is Your Mama a Llama?
Alpha Bugs
Excellent taste, you!
I have been collecting children's books for 15 years and working in them for almost as long. I have a fairly large collection, but it's always in flux. I also like Leonardo the Terrible Monster by Mo Willems (better than the pigeon books). When I got pregnant, I went out and got Good Night, Gorilla, Make Way for Ducklings, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, and some other more classic things to complement my more modern collection.
