Those who have tried the ferber method-come in

How long did it take to work? and DID it even work. I think we may have to bite the bullet and just do it tonight, he was up every 15 minutes last night I joke you not. i tried to let him CIO last night but he sounds so...well.....pitifull...it so hard. But we have to try it.

Re: Those who have tried the ferber method-come in

  • really only cried more than 10 minutes off an on for a week-ish (of course once in a while he has his moments).  he did cry/whine for a few minutes for like a month though!

now we are at the point that if he cries for more than a few mins, I get him b/c I know he can self soothe so something else may be wrong (teething pain/hungry/etc)

  • our doctor suggested we try it as well.  LO was sttn for a about 2 months.  Then for the last 2 months she gets up around 1 & 3am and it is really hard to get her back to sleep. I really wanted to avoid CIO...but, I think we have to at least try it.

Interested in seeing what othershave to say.

  • We have used CIO for GOING to sleep but I've never done it upon waking.  Recently DD has started waking about an hour after going to sleep at night.  Otherwise, she sleeps like a champ through the night.  I don't know what's going on.  I feed her (even though she can't be hungry) and put her back down.  I know I'm not helping the problem this way.  I've thought about CIO but it seems so much meaner when they wake up and you don't go them.  I don't know if I'm tough enough for this!  Curious to know what you decide to do.

  • We successfully used Ferber a little less than a month ago.  Our LO was getting terrible sleep and waking so often during the night because she relied on us to get to sleep.  I was surprised at how well the Ferber method worked.  She cried more before we Ferbered than she did with the supposed cry it out.  The first three nights were the hardest, but by the fourth night she was falling asleep on her own in her crib with no paci and no swaddle.  She sleeps so much better now.

Do you have Ferber's book?  I found it really helpful to read the parts that pertained to our situation before we tried doing the method.

  • our original plan was to let him cry 5 mins, check on him, then 10 mins, then 15.  we ended up deciding that 10 mins was enough for us! but it still worked for us, it's just probably why it took a little longer than other stories I've heard.
