Weight check at Pedi?

I would like to know how well DS is gaining weight.  Has anyone gone into their pedi's office for just a weight check?  Can I call and ask to come in to just get him weighed?  Would this be a strange request?

I'm not really concerned with his weight, but he recently he dropped a feeding, some days two, and I want to make sure he's still on track.  He was 15 lbs at his 2 month appt, so he's a big baby.  He gets plenty of wet diapers a day.  I'm just curious if this is common (weight check) and don't want to be "that mom" at the pedi office.

Re: Weight check at Pedi?

  • You could request a nurse visit at 3 months... tell them your concerns.  I'm sure you're not the first.
  • I took DS in when he was 1 week for a weight check, so I'm sure they'll let you.  Who cares if you're "that mom," if it will put your mind at ease?

    I agree with this.

  • My pedi said we could come in anytime for a weight check.  So should be no problem!

  • If your hospital has a Lactation Center you can call and see if you can use their scale to weigh your LO.

  • Do you have a good scale at home? Mine has lbs and oz...when I want to know her weight, I way myself holding her, then just my weight, and substract the two. I'm sure your pedi's office wouldn't mind at all.

This is what we do in-between appts it might not be completely accurate but it will give you an idea.

We don't have a scale at home.  I think I'll see if I can bring him in, or maybe I'll just go buy a scale.  I need a good scale anyways to help motivate me in losing the last 30 lbs of baby weight.

  • i brought DD in for weight checks 3 weeks in a row b/c she was spitting so much and had stopped pooping. i could just drop in during their "well child" hours and a nurse would take care of it quickly. no prob at all.
