I find this creepy........

anyone else?

I just finished with a session for someone to log into my computer via gomeeting.com so they could fix the issues I am having with trying to print shipping labels via usps. and also DH wasn't able to do what he needs to do for work.

It wasn't my firewall or security or anything that we had up. It was an update to our system that effed our computer up. It was some random 2 buttons that he checked off that allowed my computer to work again.

I just find it creepy (yet sooooooo useful) that it is that easy to log onto someones' computer and then watch them take over because he had control of the keypad and mouse!

Re: I find this creepy........

  • yes, that is extremely creepy and I needed it once, but refused it and had MIL come fix my issue.
  • I actually think it's pretty cool. I've used the feature for my current job and past jobs. It's really nice to be able to just put in a password to allow someone to use my computer instead of having them try to describe steps for me to take. Plus since I have to allow them in each time, I'm not worried about them getting personal info.

  • It is creepy...MH logs into our computer from work and it freaks me out every time!
  • I've only done that with people at work, and, to be quite honest, I think it's AWESOME because there's just no way I could do what they did myself and I'm way too far from our office for them to physically get on my computer.

It is a little freaky, but at least I know I have to give the person permission before they can take over!

This.  I have only had it done at work, but it is so convenient.

  • I used a program similar to that at my last job in software support.  It was extremely helpful when we couldn't figure out the problem and needed to check things out further.  I was trying to explain things to people who had very basic computer skills, so it was nice to be able to take over and figure out what was going on.  However, when I had to call support for my personal computer, I didn't like it when they took over my computer to fix my DSL.  So I guess I only like it if I'm the one taking over someone else's computer.  :)

  • This is the type of service our engineers provide - it's called remote troubleshooting.  It's pretty common where the client cannot fix it on their end, and we take over their computer and tweak what needs to be fixed.  Pretty normal.
  • I think remote access is cool as sh*t.  There was a coworker who logged in at work from home at another office I used to work for.  I also had to have McAfee take remote access to fix a virus a few months ago.  Thought it was amazing!
  • We use go to meeting for my work and it is definitely useful at times but it is a bit weird.

  • I wish we could do this to my IL's computer.  It would save me hours on the phone.

  • My friend has a logmein.com account b/c he is an IT specialist and we signed up my computer on his account so that he can fix my issues for me. He has to have the password to log into my computer but since I'm in NY and he's in CT it is very convenient.

  • Wanted to add - it reduces travel cost.  Instead of your client in California paying an engineer to fly to CA for the day, rent a car, etc....  it's way cheaper and quicker.

You can it is gotomypc.com & you sign up for it & your IL & you can get in on there computer & do whatever you want.  It is not very expensive either.  I got hooked up with it when I was on maternity leave so I could work from home.
