Sacroiliac Joint pain/dysfunction

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction...

Just what I needed when I was coasting through this pregnancy partially unscathed. Had a doctors appt on Friday and I'm getting referred out to a physical therapist, I'm hoping that PT paired with Prenatal yoga and Tylenol will fix the debilitating ache in my left SI Joint.

 Anyone else dealing with this?

Re: Sacroiliac Joint pain/dysfunction

  • I am in pain almost every night, especially if I have done a lot of walking during the day ... I use a heating pad and one tylenol-3, (and sit on the balance ball for awhile), and it's usually gone by the time I wake up in the morning ... just to start the process all over again the next night.  :(

  • I have had bad SI joint problems for probably about 8 years on and off.  Strangely since being pregnant and my joints becoming softer, it hasn't locked up on me at all  *knock on wood*

If you haven't seen a chiropractor about it, you might want to consider it, because it has helped me a lot in the past.

Sorry you're in pain-- but I'm always kind of glad when I hear someone else has even heard of SI joint problems.  Everyone knows what Sciatica is, but people just sort of give me the blank stare if I try to explain to them what's wrong with my back/hip.

This, PT never worked for me.

  • I'm also experiencing this, almost surely!  I found it really got worse since the week of Thanksgiving.  The annoying part is how it's really unreliable as to what makes it worse and what makes it better.  I think it was partly triggered by tripping and slipping and jamming my leg into my joint (hard to explain.)  I have had luck with both resting and stretching, but also had days where neither helped.  Walking for long periods definitely makes it worse.  I'm going to ask about PT.
  • Yes, and chiropractic is the only thing that seems to work for me. I feel like a new woman when I get adjusted!
  • PT helped in the form of strengthening the core muscles to keep the joint in place so that it wouldn't slip out as easily-- but once the joint had slipped out/locked up, the chiropractor was the only way to go to get relief from the pain.

  • The chiropractor didn't help me at all. I had to do a couple months worth of physical therapy. She was able to get it back in place and the exercises helped strengthen the muscles so it would stay in place.

It's also nice because they will give you a massage - very relaxing.
