online billpay through your bank - another ?

Really dumb question but what date do you set for the bills to be paid? The actual due date or a few days in advance? thanks!

  • When I go to select the date, it gives me the "delivery" date, which is usually about 2-3 business days out.

SO, I set it up for a few days before they're due.

  • uhmmmm... if you set the bills to be paid on the due date, they'll all be late.  Set them to arrive a day or two before the due dates so you don't have problems.

Why woud they be late? If they are paid on the due date then they will be right on time.  I pay all my bills at once and just have the delivered ASAP.

  • We have all of our bills split in half (since we both get paid twice a month), so I set it up to have the first half paid on the 1st of the month and the second half to be paid on the 16th.  Way easier for me to just do them all in a group like that.

If I were paying attention to the actual due dates, I'd probably have them arrive at least the day before they were due.

Because most people use "date they're paid" to mean the date they're "issued and mailed," which isn't the date they're received by the entity you're making payment to, so if you set up your account to "pay" the bill (Issue the payment) on the date the bill is due, it'll arrive late.

  • I usually pay them about a week in advance.

We have Wells Fargo, and when you pick which day you want to send it, it shows you what day the place will receive it.  It is usually anywhere from 2-7 days.  It just depends on the bill.  Maybe we're all on a different page.

Actually the companies that are paid by my bank for bill pay the money is essentially transfered from  my account to the company. The date they recieve the money is the date it is transfered so if it is paid on the 4th the money is recieved by that particular company on the 4th.

  • I dont have dates set.  We get paid every weds so weds morning while dd is eating breakfast I go on and pay the bills I have set fo that day.  I have a spred sheet for each week that shows me what gets paid and how much is to be paid.  It also tells me how mych I have left for the week after bills are paid.

But if your setting the days up you need to look at how long it will take your bank to send it.  I have wells fargo and it tells me weather its 1 day or 5-7 days it just depends on if they have to send a check or not.
