First, I know that all you need to do lose weight is exercise and a good diet. I get exercise, eat fairly well and nothing. I saw our pictures from this weekend's holiday party and that is it. A few months ago I thought about it, but I am going on a diet, tomorrow. I have done weight watchers before, I don't really understand how it helps people (not a fan of meetings), kept within the points maybe lost 5 pounds. I was thinking of South Beach. Guys any help would be appreciated. I am 5 ft 7 168-170 athletic build, wear 8-10.
Re: Cannot lose weight, help!!
Have you have your thyroid checked? That can be a factor in weight gain and so can some hormonal things too.
Here's the thing, unless your doing a daily Michael Phelps-type workout, exercising alone won't help you lose weight. It's all about the foods you eat and healthy portions. I think going back on WW would be a good idea, you might find that you've been eating way more than you thought.
For me, exercise is all about toning and cardiovascular health. If I want to lose weight, or keep weight off, I need to diet. You also don't seem like you have much weight to lose, so you'll definitely need some sort of healthy eating kickstart.
I have belonged to Curves since Dec. 6th, 2008 & have lost 24 lbs since last January. I love Curves!! I am now BELOW my goal weight, weighing what I did in high school...FOUR kids ago! I attend 3x per week & really watch what I eat. High fiber items are a MUST. They allow you to consume more calories. Curves also has a weight loss program that you attend meetings for, but I do not belong to that.
The problem with things like South Beach are that you have to make a life-long commitment to whatever new eating style you take on. You are better off joining a group (like WW or Curbes) that can arm you with the food/ eating info that you will take with you for the rest of your lide.
GL!
I'm similiar to you. I'm 5'7" and about 160lbs and wear a size 8 right now. This is about 30lbs more than i weighed before getting pg with DS 3 years ago. I'm at a "healthy" weight but am not happy with where I am. I also hated WW. Last week I started using Sparkpeople to track my calories and I've already lost 5lbs.
Sparkpeople opened my eyes to how many calories i was actually eating. I'd have a whole wheat bagel with low fat cream cheese for breakfast and some fruit thinking it was healthy. It was about 500 calories! So now I have a bowl of cereal and skim milk.
I also find that snacking helps. I am addicted to these light wasa crackers. Make sure you get the light version. They each have 20 calories (about the size of a graham cracker). I then spread some light garlic and herb laughing cow cheese on them. They are really filling. Salads have also become my friend. I make my own dressing so its not as bad. I make sure i chop of plenty of fresh veggies (carrots, tri-colored peppers, onions, cucumbers). I throw on some fat free croutons and sometimes even some homemade breaded chicken cut up. I make a big salad every night to go along with whatever we're having. I fill up on the salad so I don't eat too much of the 'bad' food i'm cooking. For example, instead of eating 2 tacos and rice i'll just have 1. Instead of several slices of pizza, i'll have only 1 or so. It really has helped this week. But the key for me is having all the produce chopped up/washed/and ready to go.
I've lost 48 lbs on WW, and have only done it online.
I agree with the fact that you may be eating more than you think. One bite here, and one bite there, and you can rack up an additional 100-200 calories a day.
