3rd Trimester

Raspberry Leaf Tea?

I picked some up since I had read somewhere it was good to take during pregnancy and late pregnancy...Does anyone know what the idea is behind RLT? If it is supposed to start contrax or ripen cervix? I know many of these methods don't work at all, just curious what this is supposed to do. It says on the box it is for the "female system" and tones the uterus, which leads me to believe maybe has something to do with contrax?

Re: Raspberry Leaf Tea?

  • I have heard about RLT from a  co worker.  She has had 8 children and said she took it with her last one and wish she took it with every other one.  She said it was the easiest labor and delivery she had had of all her children and swears by it.  She told me she didnt tear at all and was up and moving around an hour later.  She told me how she took it but she also used it to start her labor and barely made it to the hospital.  Who knows if it is couincidence or it was the cause of such an easy labor and delivery...either way i think its worth a shot

  • I believe it is supposed to "tone" your uterus.

  • I thought it softened your cervix. It also helps with after the baby is born, to get your uterus back to normal size and help control the bleeding.

  • I started taking it around 37 weeks with my first pregnancy. I went into labor a week before my due date. I'm not sure if it was from the tea or not though. I remember a women on here when I was pregnant with Caelen that took it her entire pregnancy because her midwife suggested it, not sure if it worked for her or not though.

This.  And i've had 2 midwives and 1 doula tell me this info, so i believe them.

  • It strengthens or tones your uterus so that it makes contractions more effective. I think you will disappointed if you take it to start labor.
  • I defenitely dont want to "start" my labor, but want to give my body a better start at it. I was induced with DS#1, and do not want to go that route again. A toned uterus that goes back to size quicker after delivery sounds excellent to me. Plus-more efficient contractions seems like a definite perk too...Sounds like a plan to me. ::Off to drink my first cup::,,,,I hope it tastes good
  • I put about 1 tbsp of sugar in mine and it's perfect. I think it is one of the few teas I enjoy drinking.
  • It's generally recommended to start taking it around 36 weeks, though many take it throughout pregnancy.
