And you don't 'need' it, will you keep the clothing because it's cute and was a gift or will you turn it in for store credit and get something you actually need?
On top of all the registry stuff I got, I received a ton of clothes. I am just too lazy to figure out where it all came from to take it back!
We already had most of what we needed by my first shower though so I don't anticipate needing to buy too much on our own if I don't get the rest of our registry stuff at the next shower.
sort thru it. you need some anyways. i kept the ones that were super-cute as well as most outfits from my nearest and dearest...everything else went back.
Turn it in for store credit and get something I need! I got some cute things for my shower that I didn't need (picture frames, blankets, some clothes) and returned them for store credit. I was able to get a few items I genuinely needed and I'm glad I did that. Holding onto something just because it was a gift or 'cute' is only going to take up space and is kinda a waste, IMO. I've got plenty of cute things and needed to get those necessity items so I didn't feel bad about it.
I guess we'll see how it goes. I haven't had my shower yet - it's a biggie and is going to be on the 19th and I'm just wondering how to handle things.
I don't want to be ungrateful and the thought of taking back a present someone gave me, for store credit, to buy something I need to get feels really bad.
Especially since I have kind of already planned on paying for everything so I can look at the gifts as a pleasant surprise and not an, "Oh good, I needed that, thank god!"
But, I want the *** off my registry. I'm thinking I'm going to see all of the adorable outfits and even though I have way too many already, I'm not going to be able to part with them.
With DD I kept them. The good thing about it was when we went into the attic to get out the baby stuff I had several unworn clothes with tags that this LO would get to wear. I guess it depends on if you have the storage space or not.

I understand what you mean but if you already have a lot of clothes for LO and you keep tons of clothes from your shower I will bet you money that when he outgrows them you will still have half of them in tags! They grow so fast in the beginning and most people like to buy the cutsie newborn or 0-3 months stuff. You will blink and realize he didn't wear half of it and it still has tags on it.

True, true. I guess part of me doesn't know how many clothes are really enough.
Here's what we have for 0-3 months (And about the same for every 'age group' after up until 12 months):
10 "Outside / Dressy" Outfits (i.e. Pants with matching onesie and sweater vest or shirt with matching overalls, etc.)
18 Sleep and Plays (or Sleepers, whatever you call them)
15 Onesies
20 Gowns
5 Sleep Sacks
10 T-Shirts
Those are all of the 'categories' I can think of now. Is that enough or could we use some additionals?

I don't know how often you do wash but to me this sounds like plenty! Silas has tons and tons of the sleep n plays and some super cute ones and when they are small the scrunge up so much anyways that outfits look silly so I figure for the first 2 months or so he can basically live in those.
Definitely return it for credit! People who I know are coming to my shower have been how it's going and I am telling everyone... "Oh we have so many clothes... that's the last thing we need"

Exactly... and when I am normal Kim and not lazy-ass Kim like I have been the past week, I do laundry every single day so that we never have more than a load needing to go. Even if I only run his laundry every three days, I still think this will be plenty. It's hard to tell. How many receiving blankets do you have or plan on getting? Everyone keeps telling me that I need a million of those.
I have 15 that are cute and then was given a ton of used ones that are kind of faded but I might keep if I end up needing more than the 15. Whatcha' think?

I have 12 nice new receiving blankets and I got 12 older ones that are faded. I washed the new ones and put them in his dresser and kept the old ones in a bag in the closet. I don't want to throw them away and end up needing them. DH and I only do our wash every 2 weeks ::GASP:: we like clothes I guess LOL and we have to do it in our apartments laundrymat so we drag our feet. His stuff will be easy to take down though and one load is like all his clothes LOL
We kept the stuff we "really" liked..and returned the rest for credit. Im just afraid that someone will ask how LO looks in their outfit...and I won't have it anymore. Oh well!
This exact thing happened to me. I didn't get any big ticket items that I had registered for. I was a little disappointed, but still thankful to have recieved any gifts at all. I went through and inventoried it all and took back what I didn't need, and used the money to buy my big ticket items. We did get a lot of gift cards too, so that money was used towards things we needed as well. Hope this was helpful. GL!!

I am returning the 6mo snow suit I got because it is snowing now, and I will surely move away if it continues to snow through the summer. But otherwise I am going to keep most of it I think.
I bought the strict minimum of clothes... Just because I believe that people at my first baby shower won't buy anything from my registry , but mostly cute clothes... So after all is said and done I'll probably be returning some of the stuff for store credit, so we can get the stuff we really need. I'll probably be keeping the stuff from dear friends....
I'm sure I'll keep some, and return some to buy the items that I need.
Either way I'll be grateful that people gave thoughtful gifts, but... I might be swearing a little as I schlep my about-ready-to-pop-self to the store in the ice and snow to go buy the things I said I needed in the first place.

I kept some of the stuff that was cute and practical, but I returned most of it for store credit and bought the stuff we REALLY needed.
