3rd Trimester

could someone talk with me about braxton hicks?

So last night i was just about to sit down for dinner when -WHAM- I seriously felt like someone had a vice grip around my abdomen. It felt like a really bad number 2 type cramp.

These sorts of pains lasted off and on for about an hour or two and then stopped.

Considering I'm feeling just fine before and after, I'm wondering if that was a BH type thing or if my belly was just not happy? My doc has told me t start keeping track of BH if I experience them, but I dont really have a clear idea of what I'm looking for.

Thoughts?

  • When I get them they don't really hurt or feel like a cramp, but rather just everything gets tight. It sort of feels like the baby is stretching out and pushing on every direction and then it goes away. Sometimes my heart rate picks up, too, from it pushing on my diaphragm.?

  • I'm still having a hard time distinguishing whether I'm having bad gas pains or BH sometimes too.
  • My BH feel like my tummy gets in a hard, tight ball for about 30 seconds.  I'd say it's uncomfortable but not painful.

  • My BH feel nothing like intestinal troubles. It's just a strong tightening of my uterus...never any pain.
  • BH (and latent labor contractions or "real" contractions) feel like your abs are doing crunches without your permission.

If you had pain, it might have been gas or RLP.

  • I never had any with DS.  They are just practice contractions - don't know why they have a fancy name.  They can be mild or severe.  I've WAS having severe BH with this pregnancy since 30 weeks - I'm talking can't walk, gasping for breath, and once my legs even went out from under me.  So they CAN be very painful!  Oh - and pain doesn't mean they are doing anything.  I had these for 7 weeks and at my 37 week checkup I had no progress.  The odd thing is, now that I could actually go into labor, I haven't had any contractions since the day before T-day.  So I'm pretty sure the next ones I feel are going to be the real ones.
