I think K needs Dora detox. This will be painful for both of us.

She is an addict.  The first words out of her mouth every morning are, "C'n I watch a Dora?!"  She cries when I turn off the TV and asks for Doras all day long.  We can be out somewhere, and she'll start crying and say, "I just wanna go home and watch a Dora!"  It's beyond ridiculous.

We were those "No TV for our baby" parents until she was over a year old, and then one day we let her watch one episode of "Dora" and she loved it.  Okay, fine.  One a day--no problem. That became two a day, and before we knew it, she was feenin' for Doras all day long.  She needs a 12-step program.  I think we may need to cut her off for a while, cold turkey.

This isn't going to be pretty.

  • Yeah, that Dora.  Have you tried letting her check out the Dora books from the library instead?  DD loves them and only gets to watch the show once in a great while.  They have all the episodes in book form, and even have early reader books that are Dora.  I mean, it's not Frog and Toad quality stories or anything, but it's better than watching tv all day, kwim?  Plus she could even take them with her places!
  • This would be us, but insert Max and Ruby in Dora's place

  • I could have written this exact post regarding my dd.  She even sings the dora theme song when going to sleep.  And you can NOT communicate with her when she's watching, she's in her own little world.  Eventually she'll usually start playing while its on in the background though.  I try to limit her to one a day but that doesn't usually work.
