Nursing cover question

I know I probably should post this on 0-3, but I feel much more comfortable posting here...I like all of you!  Anyway, do you think it's necessary to have a nursing cover, like Udder Covers or Bebe au Lait?  Or is a blanket just as good?  I guess the benefit of the nursing cover is you can make eye contact with the baby, but my sister told me her kids (she has 5!) mostly closed their eyes to nurse anyway.

Re: Nursing cover question

  • I always used a blanket w/DD.....I agree w/your sister....DD slept or had eyes closed most of the time

  • A blanket may slip and fall off your shoulder, etc.

I have a Hooter Hider (made by Bebe au Lait...I think it's a subsidiary brand) and I really liked it.  It has a simple strap that goes around your neck so it won't fall off.

  • I have a Hooter Hider that I used with my son. I liked it better than a blanket b/c blankets can easily fall down. I also liked that the cover allowed me to see him easily while still remaining covered and it gave him plenty of air circulation. I didn't get it until he was a few months old and then he got to where he didn't like being covered by it, so I didn't get much use out of it. But I will definitely use it this time and am happy to have it. So, I wouldn't say it's a necessity, but I definitely think it's nice to have. You could always see how you like using a blanket first before you spend the money on a cover.
  • I registered for one, only because my sil INSISTED (she was with me at the time..) but I'm sure our mother's breastfeeding tec worked just fine!
  • I have one and I thought it was a PITA.  It was just easier for me to throw a blanket over my shoulder than to put that thing around my neck and get it situated.  I felt like I was putting on a production!  I never had an issue with a blanket falling off.  But I was using a receiving blanket, not a plush blanket - I could see that leading to slippage.  IMO - not worth the money.  Mine was a gift.
