So tonight, Nate decided to make a batch of soap before baby M gets here. He decided to cut his soap mold (which I told him not to do) and then zip tie it together so it's easier to unmold the soap when it's ready. Well, as he pours a WHOLE batch of soap into the mold, it starts leaking out of the cut marks (like I knew it would). I yell for him to stop, and as he picks it up to transfer it to a different mold, the bottom falls out and soap goes everywhere. I fell to the floor laughing uncontrollably and gave him the biggest TOLD YA SO ever
Re: My hippie boyfriend's soapmaking gone wrong PIP
Oh my gosh, that is going to be a PITA to clean up!
What kind of soap was he making? Scented? Herbs?

I think he googled soap recipes online and followed one he liked. He's had to buy a lot of ingredients online like coconut oil and palm oil and the essential oils. Those ingredients make it nice and smoooooth. He uses lye for the actual "get ya clean" part. I can't help with that, as I guess it could be dangerous for a pregnant woman. Anyways! We cook it on the stove and then mix it with a handheld stand mixer. Pour it into the molds (which usually works better than today), and let it cure. It has to cure (get hard) for about 3 weeks. So altogether it's a long process, but a lot of fun and rewarding!
Someone said baby poop, but I thought of split pea soup.
And my mom makes her own soap. I think that there really isn't anything nicer.
