2009: The last year for a live-dead CHristmas tree ...

... every year for the last 5 years, our Christmas tree has fallen over at least once ... and ours just did.  :(  WIth LO going to be here soon, I predict that this is the last year we have a live-dead tree.  Artificial trees are a little more balanced and probably don't fall over.

  • Look into a bigger tree stand.  The big plastic stands work really well.  I have never had a tree fall over in 6 years.

  • We got an artificial tree this year.  It's been like WW3 in my house the past couple of years trying to wrangle the live tree up, into the stand and get it to stay up.  So, instead of fighting, we made it easy with a fake.

  • Hmmmm. My real tree has never fallen down in my whole life. Maybe its your stand or maybe you are not putting it in the stand correctly?

Ditto this.  Our fake tree always fell over because the cats would try to climb it, but no problems with a live one. . .but to each their own.

  • I love my fake tree.  It's really pretty and it's low maintenance.  No watering and no dried dying needles falling all over the floor.  Plus, it's right there waiting for me when I'm ready to put it up right after Thanksgiving!

We've done the big plastic ones, the cast iron ones, the stabilizer stands, and they've all fallen over.  I think the problem is that DH isn't patient enough to stabilize the tree enough when he puts it in the stand.  :(

  • Do you only put the ornaments on the front of the tree?  Ours fell one year because it was unbalanced.  Now we put ornaments all the way around, even on the back where no one sees it.
