*Today's Question*
I know that there are a few people on here that are concerned about gaining enough weight. What are your weight gaining tips and what foods do you eat to help gain your weight?
Re: MoM's To Be Friday Check-In
I have a bad case of phlebitis in my right arm from doing the glucose test on Monday.. I am in a TON of pain :-( I have a tennis brace on below my elbow... and I am rubbing icy hot on it to soothe it but I can't make a fist, stretch my arm, or lift anything.. this is the 2nd time this has happened to me! so now I think I am going to have a phobia of needles... I went to the docs yesterday cos I was in so much pain and they sent me for an U/S to make sure there wasn't any blood clots.. (which there is not, thank God)
aside from that, all is well.. I've made it 2 days without MS - woohoo!
QOTD: Everyone around me tells me to make sure I'm not eating too much.. I am gaining weight but I don't think it's excessive.. my MIL told me "it's not like you're eating for 3!" lol
my OB has me meeting with a nutritionist today.. so I'm sure that will help answer a lot of my questions
Went for an another anatomy scan last week- both boys are up to 10 oz. each!
I gained 17 pounds so far- For me, I would say that I eat as often as possible- not junk but good healthy snacks,
Nothing new here.
QOTD: I'm not really going to worry about my weight so long as the babies are measuring correctly. I was up 22 lb at 24 weeks...
Update: I ended up in L&D yesterday for IV hydration. I had been dealing with a stomach bug and UTI since Monday. By yesterday I just couldn't take it anymore. I was dry heaving and gaging anytime I tried to take any solid food, the zofran, tylenol and immodium were helping, but the second they wore off, I was miserable again. I called my OB in tears basically and told him I felt as though I wasn't getting any better, getting no where. So he sent me up to get hydrated. 3 liters of fluid and IV meds later, I felt half human again. So i'm at home today just taking it easy.
QOTD: At my 16 week apt, I gained 6lbs. My kiddos are measuring right on target and they told me not to be concerned. I try and eat higher protein foods and drink Ensure, but I'm just not gaining the weight now like I thought I would be. I have an apt next Friday and I'll be surprised if i'm up 10lbs (I'll be 20 weeks). I'm sure though in third trimester, I'll make up for lost time!
update: working from home today and loving it! I was on my feet waaay too much yesterday. I'm having coffee later with a local MoM of triplet toddlers, so I'm looking forward to that.
QOTD: I've been eating a mix of junk food and healthy food. My nutritionist (who has trips herself!) is pretty strict about weight gain - she wants me to gain 28 pounds by 20 weeks - I think I'm pretty close! My favorite weight gain snack is a protein shake (Boost Plus has over 300 calories!) + vanilla ice cream or whole milk. Or vanilla ice cream + whole milk + carnation instant breakfast powder. Basically I try to do a lot of strategic combinations - instead of just an apple, I'll have apple slices with peanut butter.
Thanks for adjusting my date!
No news yet - we have an u/s scheduled for Monday where we need to see 2 little hb's for all this to be real. I am scared to death. I even played the crazy card this morning and called the RE to ask if they could get me in today so I didn't have to be nervous nelly all weekend. Doc's in surgery all day so they couldn't see me. I have a history of losses so I just want to get to the point where I can breathe a little easier.
No weight gain tips yet - I'm not eating much lately because of the m/s.
I spent 5 hours in L&D on Wednesday after a routine ultrasound revealed a 1.6cm cervix. When they had me on the monitor they found that I was having contractions so they gave me some meds to stop them. After 5 hours they let me go home. No bedrest, just a rec of "take it easy". It was scary but I'm glad to be home.
?
As for the ? of the day, I have NO PROBLEM with gaining weight, lol. I'm pretty good at it naturally!?
34 weeks today!! Yay : ) My doc's office called this morning to say they need me to come in earlier than my scheduled appt. because they caught the fact that I need a NST/AFI. Gee, thanks for letting me know the day of!!
QOTD: I've just been eating pretty normally, except with much more of a sweet tooth than usual ; ) I've been drinking shakes high in protein at least once a day. Nothing complicated or planned out, I just make sure that I eat something every few hours.
Almost 34 weeks and excited to meet my little ones! Just a few more weeks...
QOTD: No real issue gaining. Had some trouble in the beginning but have caught up. I have gained about 25lbs so far and my doc is okay with that. I was not tiny when I get pregnant. Babies have been doing great so far!
Updates: None. My next growth u/s isnt until next week at 37 weeks. Babies are still moving around but alot less. I imagine they are running out of room
QOTD: I never worried much about weight gain, as long as the babies were growing on schedule. I had a slower weight gain in the begining but am now up 35 lbs and gained half that in 3rd tri. I crave alot of milk and cheese so I do eat alot of that. And when I was trying to put on some more weight in 2nd tri, I did drink whole milk
Please add me to the list - EDD 7/15/10. Thanks!
Update: I've found out that I just barely passed the GD test that I took earlier this week. The recommendation from my OB is to watch what I eat more carefully and be sure to get in a 15-20 min walk after meals. Also, I'm mildly anemic, so I've added an OTC iron supplement.
QOTD: As for weight gain, I've been pretty steadily gaining since the beginning. I'm up about 25 pounds now, which is right about where I had targeted to be. I certainly don't have any trouble gaining the weight - my concern is that I will gain too much.
Update: No news, thankfully. The Braxton Hicks have slowed drastically. I have no idea what causes the flare up on Sunday and Tuesday. I hope it doesn't happen again.
Today's Question: As of today, I've gained 23 pounds. 3 of these pounds I somehow gained in the last 5 days... At the beginning, when I was worried about gaining enough weight, I ate a lot of snacks, had protein shakes and substituted my lunch soup/salad combo for a hot meal to pack on the calories. But apparently, my body has no problem gaining weight and lately, it seems that all I have to do is breathe and a few more pounds come on (I'm not exercising due to the Braxton Hicks). So I'm slowing down my snacking, but still make sure I get tons of protein and calcium and that I'm never hungry.
Hello everyone, my Peri's office called and said I was very anemic. The iron in my blood or hemoglobin was 10.2 and they said they wanted it at least over 12. So I am on Slow Fe iron pills along with my PNV and a high iron diet which is tough, and now my nausea is back too, oh well, it is worth it
QOTD: They have weighed me at my two Peri appointments but I never ask the amounts, too chicken I guess. I never really stepped on the scale prior either, I just worked out a lot. When I go on Tuesday to see my Peri I will ask about my gain. I am now on an iron rich diet, so lots of red meat, cereal, cream of wheat, and almonds. I am going to ask about Ensure I think at my appointment too. Oh, and everyone thinks I look at least 5 months pregnant so I am showing quite a lot now too
I'm just starting this pg, but I nicknamed my last 'The Meat and Cheese Pregnancy', I ate a lot of both and gained about 45 pounds. I'm already taking in a lot of protein. I'm still breastfeeding my son, so I am supposed to get 9 to 10 servings of protein a day.
Just as an aside, this pg is The Gas Pregnancy--I know you all wanted to know that, lol.
Wednesday night I was having menstrual-like cramps that became more intense over time and then nausea. Drinking water and laying down didn't help. The on-call doc met me at L&D. I was having some irregular contractions but my cervix was closed and the FFN was negative. Thank God! I'm still having them occasionally but not nearly as painful or frequent. I also started insulin this week for GD. It didn't work, so I'm increasing the dosage tomorrow. Tonight is my 2nd baby shower!!
QOTD: I was very focused on meeting the weight gain goals at 20 and 28 weeks. Once those were met, I stopped checking my weight. Yesterday at the doctor's, I weighed in at +37lbs. I ate peanut butter, cheese, 2% milk, ice cream, shakes, and the occasional burger to help me gain weight. I also ate a big snack before bed.
I got on the scale today and I am finally back at my prepreg weight. I lost 10 pounds with my m/s and I have finally gained it back. The babies are measuring on track but I still do not seem to be gaining weight easily.
I think m/s is coming back more and more. I have already puked 2 times today. It was down to 2 or 3 times a week. I hope not.
I'm eating all day long, trying to keep the nausea at bay. It's working so far.
QOTD: No weight gain tips yet, but the milkshake idea sounds good!
Update: Growth U/S today - Baby Boy A is 4lbs 3oz and Baby Boy B is 3lbs 9 oz. They both look great!
QOTD: I've gained a lot of weight - a little over 50lbs - I eat a lot of fruit and A LOT of peanut butter - lol!!
As of my peri appt wednesday, baby boy was 1lb 4oz and baby girl 1lb 3oz. both doing GREAT!
As far as gaining weight, I am concerned but OB is not and neither is Peri...I have been getting more protein and carbs in my diet. Also, more snacks throughout the day...healthy but snacks regardless...
hope all is well!
Update: Cervical length check on the 15th.
QOTD: I've gained about 20 by 20.5 weeks, the boys were measuring 13 oz each on Tues. I just try to eat every two hours or so, usually b/c that's when I'm hungry and eating as much dairy and protein as I can...allowing myself to have a brownie or something when I want, eating lots of dried fruit for fiber
Update: My nursery furniture is due to be delivered next week! So excited to see how the room looks/
QOTD: So far I have only gained 8lbs at 18 weeks 5 days. My babies both are measuring perfectly, and my OB doesn't seem too concerned. She said the weight will start to come on quickly now. I have been focusing on eating LOTS of dairy and protein, and allowing more healthy fats and carbs that I would normally.
Update:
I had my twins on 11/19/09 at 35 weeks and 6 days. They spent 10 long days in the NICU but, they have now been home a week and are doing great.
Since the topic is weight gain I figured it might help those worried about gaining weight to tell how much I gained and how much I have lost 2.5 weeks post partum. I too was very concerned about weight gain - how much was enough, how much was too much, etc.
I gained 55 lbs - my babies were 4 lbs 9 oz. and 5 lbs 3 oz. I have lost 40 of the 55 lbs 2.5 weeks postpartum. I have not been dieting since having the babies but, I definitely have been relieved to not feel like I had to eat so much to help my babies grow. I am hoping that I will be able to lose the remaining 15 lbs over the next couple of months.
