It makes me really sad

when i talk to customers and i see how behind their accounts are and then they launch into their story. i can't tell you how many times i hear " we just can't get caught up" or "i'm still waiting on my check" or some similar story. today one guy was so distressed and said to just turn them off b/c it was between that and his car and of course he needed that for work and he and his wife are working two jobs. i know there's a certain amt. of responsibility on their part but i know a lot of people are in hard places. i can generally discern betwen those who just won't cut back and those are trying and still can't keep up. sure they could cancel but etfs are a b*tch and get behind and have service turned off and reconnect fees are a b*tch or you could just let it go to collections and that is the ultimate b*tch. :::sigh::: i'm to thin-skinned for this. i hate my job and complain but heaven bless that paycheck and benefits.

  • Aww..that does suck.  It's nice that you're empathetic about it, though.  It's gotta be hard to hear that stuff all day long!

  • That would make me sad, too. Your job must be hard!

  • yeah, sometimes knowing that at least we can keep a roof over our head and food in our bellies with very few worries keeps me sane.  It is hard out there for a LOT of people, and it is so sad.  Of course, there are people who make poor choices that put them in this situation (ie my idiot BIL adding to his family and buying Hummers when they can't pay their rent) and then there are the people who lost a job and then had a medical crisis or something and are now so deep in debt they may never climb out.

When I worked for the local gov't and would get people calling when real estate assessments came out, it was a similar thing.  I had very little pity for the people calling tob*tch who owned a million dollar home and probably had a Beamer and a Mercedes in their driveway - I wanted to tell them "I guess I'll see you at the Board meeting when your local ritzy dog park is about to get shut down"  Then there were the retirees living on fixed incomes in a tiny condo who might have to give up eating altogether.  And all I was allowed to do was take their comments, not sympathize.

Hang in there, girl...and yes, keep collecting that paycheck because it is better than the alternative, right?
