Part-time preschool - is it like this for you too

When there is a change, do you know?  Like if a new kid starts or a child is no longer in the class?  I love our school as far as the teachers are really good with DS and he is learning a lot and I like their philosophy and style but they are not very organized as far as communications.  Like it is December and I do not have a December calendar...I will have to pick it up on my own on Friday - they are supposed to put it in the backpacks and they do not update their website.  One of the teachers was moved to a different room at the beginning of the room and none of the parents were told...it was not a big deal to me because it was not his favorite teacher and they still have enough staff but if it was his favorite teacher it might have been a big deal b/c DS is just like that.  And he is mentioning new names, one just seems to be a pretend friend but I am not sure where he got the name from since we do not know anyone with the name but today he said that Kayla was in class today.  And his best friend has not been there this week so I am not sure if she is sick or if she is no longer there.

Since they do drop-off out front I feel so out of the loop (they have a very open door policy so I can go in later whenever I want to look through the window but you just do not see the day-in and day-out.  Like I said, overall I am really happy with the "education" he is getting but this is driving me nuts especially since he has been having a hard time since we got back from vacation so when I try to talk up school to get him excited I want to know if there are changes.

And I will ask questions to his teacher when I drop him off on Friday but I am not even sure if I should say something to someone else.

Re: Part-time preschool - is it like this for you too

  • Well I teach part time preschool so I can tell you what happens in my classroom. If there is a change with the students (i.e. a new student or one left), I do not send home a note or make any sort of announcement to the parents. If someone asks about a child, I'll tell them though. We have 2 teachers in our program, so I would alert parents if there was a long-term or permanent staff change since it affects parent-teacher communication.

I would encourage you to ask your child's teacher if you want to know about something. Teachers don't want to bombard the parents with info, so we don't officially update you on every little thing that goes on. We send home enough paperwork already Stick out tongue
