What do you wear to bed?

I forgot how  cold I get in the winter with cold feet and then getting into a freezing bed. We keep our heat pretty low at night and I had to break out the flannel pj's, sweat shirt and socks, plus I have been drinking hot cocoa at night. DH is warm natured and so he is always hot, we rotate blankets through the year, light, medium and heavy and right now we are using the medium one because he was too hot with the hot one. My issue is when I get into bed with all those clothes  on I wake up in the middle of the night freezing.

EDIT-I meant to say I wake up sweating not freezing, so I am at loss of what to wear! I have to take everything off.

Re: What do you wear to bed?

  • I have given up on my heating bill this year.  If it is too cold Ben wakes up every single hour so we keep it comfortable for him which happens to also be pretty comfortable for me.  DH just kicks off the blankets if he gets too warm, he just wants us to be comfortable so that we might get some sleep at night.

It seems to get hotter upstairs throughout the night since it is getting colder downstairs which makes the thermostat kick on, so I go downstairs about twice a night and turn the heat down lower each time to keep it warm but not hot upstairs.  Man, the thought of all that I do while most people sleep is exhausting.

  • I wear long sleeved pajamas with pants to bed.  Most nights I go to bed with socks on too.  It was cold enough last night that DH and I cuddled most of the night too!  It was awesome!  :)

  • we keep it pretty cool at night too but i'm the opposite - i've been waking up sweating so it can't be cool enough for me.  so i sleep in a nursing tank and underwear.  and i still wake up sweating!  and poor dh has resorted to sleeping practically clothed lol.  so i guess i'm not much help.

have you tried thermal underwear?  maybe that would keep you warmer than flannel?  or maybe layer the two together.

  • I sleep in a t-shirt or tank and undies year round. I am normally cold-natured, but I get SO hot when I sleep. When the weather gets cold, we put an electric blanket on the bed and I heat it up, so I can strip and hop into a warm bed. As soon as I'm in bed the blanket goes off. We sleep with a ceiling fan on medium during the winter so that I don't get too hot at night, even though the house is cold!

  • oh jenhum has a good idea ab the electric blanket bc the bigger ones (queen and king) have separate heat controls for each side... so you could turn your side on and be warm and dh could leave his side off so he wouldn't get too hot!

  • I'll put an electric blanket under the comforter for about 30 minutes before I get in so my spot in bed is nice and toasty when I get in. (I turn off and remove the electric blanket when I go to sleep). I wear socks, too.

  • Ok, then I think I was on the right track. I have been begging DH to get an electric blanket but he says no because he is SO hot all the time and he is picky about his blankets. So I ordered a pink "warming throw" from Amazon that is just big enough to cover where I sleep and nothing else. Plus it is made of micro fleece and not polyester so it breathes better. YAY!! And it was for Komen for the Cure, so I gave a donation to Breast Cancer Awareness.

    Complete ditto.

  • I'm no help, we sleep in the buff with fans on.  We are all really hot sleepers and keep the house pretty cool at night.  And sometimes I still wake up sweating.

Ditto this entirely! I was just reading this thinking, "Doesn't anyone else sleep in the nude?!" Wink

  • A t-shirt and capri PJ pants..Back in my skinnier days I used to just sleep in just undies, but these days I guess I prefer to cover up as much as possible..hehe. Embarrassed

We have an electric mattress pad, and it is heavenly to get into a warm bed since we keep our heat pretty low. It is dual zone, so if one of us doesn't want it heated, it doesn't have to be. LOVE that thing.
