Two Under 2

Question about paying sitter to watch 2 kids.

Currently, my sitter brings her 16 month old and she watches my DS.  We love her (and her daughter) and would love for her to continue with us after we have #2.  She has worked at a few day cares before so she can handle multiple kids and her daughter is very independent. If she accepts, should I offer a pay increase? And how much of an increase is usually given?

Re: Question about paying sitter to watch 2 kids.

  • I would definitely increase since you are adding a child but I donut' pay a sitter so I don't know how much.  Maybe 25% more than you pay now.
  • I'm a nanny and a couple of dollars two or three an hour, I think is fair for adding a 2nd kid. She's watching two right now and adding a third doesn't make that much more work for a sitter. I worth with three little ones (three all under the age of three) its a lot of work but adding one more doesn't make that much more work once you past two.

  • When I was in college, I used to regularly babysit for a family. When they had their second daughter, they increased my hourly rate by $2. I thought that was pretty fair.
  • I am wondering this as well because we want our nanny to watch both kids eventually. I think we'll offer a raise, but how much?
